An American League East match-up will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the Tampa Bay Rays face the Boston Red Sox Wednesday night at 7:00 ET at historic Fenway Park on ESPN.

The Rays have gotten off to a slow start at 11-16 SU in their first 27 games of this young baseball season. Their downward spiral continued on Tuesday with a 7-4 loss to the Red Sox in the series opening game. Tampa Bay was looking good through five innings as it trailed just 1-0 with an excellent outing from pitcher Erik Bedard who gave up just four hits and one run while striking out four. Then it all fell apart for the Rays as the bullpen went on to give up six runs the rest of the game. On Wednesday they will send their ace right hander Chris Archer to the mound as he will be trying to get his third win of the season. Archer has worked 30.2 innings with a 4.11 ERA, he has struck out 25 batters and issued just five walks. For a team that leans on solid pitching the Rays have gotten anything but that to this point as they are giving up 4.41 runs per game. Their offense scores a respectable 4.15 runs per game which is normally enough to get wins, but until the pitching comes around things could be a little bit rough by the bay.

The Red Sox took a while to get going on Tuesday, but they put up a five spot in the sixth inning to pull away from the Rays to get the win. Right fielder Shane Victorino had a big night going 4-for-4 from the plate as he knocked in two runs in the game. Victorino has had only 19 at bats thus far, but he is hitting .316 and those were his first two RBI’s of the season in just his fourth game of action. Center fielder Jackie Bradley also had a nice game as he hit 2-of-4 with two RBI’s and a run scored. Pitcher John Lackey picked up his fourth win of the season as he struck out five Rays and let in just two runs. It will be lefty Felix Doubront getting the call to the hill for Boston on Wednesday as he has started the season with a 1-3 record. In his last outing he was knocked around for seven runs by the New York Yankees and he will need a much better showing in this one.

The Rays definitely have the advantage on the mound in this game as Archer has proven he can shut down any of the league’s best lineups. The Red Sox are just 3-8 in their L/11 games following a win and that stat looks promising for the visitors. We expect to see the Rays find a way to get a win in Boston where they are just 4-9 in the L/13 meetings, but are due for a breakout offensive game against a pitcher like Doubront who has given up runs in bunches this season.
