An interleague match-up will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the New York Yankees of the American League East travel to face the St. Louis Cardinals of the National League Central Monday night at 4:15 ET at Busch Stadium on ESPN. Both of these teams are the cream of their divisions with talent all across the board with St. Louis a huge ‘favorite’ to get a win in this series opener.

The Yankees beat up the Chicago White Sox on Sunday to the tune of a 7-1 shellacking on the road to keep pace with the AL East leading Toronto Blue Jays. Old reliable shortstop Derek Jeter went 4-for-5 at the dish knocking in two RBI’s and scoring another run in the win. Second baseman Brian Roberts smacked his second homerun of the season as New York picked up a 2-1 series victory over Chicago. Pitcher Masahiro Tanaka continued his winning ways as he ran his record to 7-1 by throwing 6.2 innings allowing one run on just five hits. On Monday it will be right hander Chase Whitley getting the start for the Yanks as he comes in with a 1.00 ERA in 9.0 innings pitched allowing eight hits. Whitley was outstanding last week against the Chicago Cubs as he allowed one run on six hits in 4.1 innings, but received a no decision in the 4-2 win for New York. The Yankees will be trying for a third win in a row in this game as they try to stay hot early in the season.

The Cardinals had four runs on 11 hits in Sunday’s 4-0 shutout over the Cincinnati Reds. It was Matt Holliday and Matt Adams getting it done offensively providing all the run support needed for their ace on the hill. Pitcher Adam Wainwright did his thing as he went 8.0 strong innings allowing just five hits and no runs to put his record at 8-2 on the year. On Monday right hander Michael Wacha will be taking the mound attempting to grab his fourth win of the season. Wacha injured his elbow when he was hit by a foul ball in his last start, but is expected to shake it off and make this start as he has a 2.54 ERA in 60.1 innings worked thus far. The Cards are 6-2 in their L/8 games when following up a win, but Wacha must have a strong return to help them improve on that mark. Their pitching staff has been getting the job done allowing only a 3.21 team ERA that ranks them No. 5 in the league.

The Cardinals will have a really good chance at winning this game as they are at home in front of another sellout at Busch Stadium. We expect to see Wacha come back with a vengeance and get a win over the Yankees. It’s hard to get a feel on this game for two teams that haven’t met since June 12, 2005, but we do like the home team to pull out the win.
