An interleague match-up will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the Kansas City Royals of the American League travel to face the St. Louis Cardinals of the National League Monday night at 8:10 ET at Busch Stadium on ESPN. This will be the first of a four game series between these two old Missouri rivals.

The Royals suffered a second straight loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday 4-0 as they traveled north of the border. The offense managed just six hits and stranded seven runners on base in the loss. Only shortstop Alcides Escobar managed to get two hits as his team fell for the sixth time in the L/8 games. Pitcher Jeremy Guthrie threw 7.0 innings while giving up two runs and eight hits as he dropped to 2-5 on the season. Lefty Danny Duffy will get the start on Monday as he brings a 2-5 record into this contest. He has a 3.57 ERA in 35.1 innings of work and will have his work cut out for him. The Royals are 5-11 in their L/16 games as an ‘underdog’ as they continue a long road trip. They have put up a 6-2 record in their L/8 starts when Duffy takes the mound. At 26-30 on the season Kansas City sits at the bottom of the American League central standings.

The Cardinals got a 2-0 win over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday as that was the only victory they managed in a three game series. Right fielder Oscar Taveras and shortstop Jhonny Peralta provided the only RBI’s for St. Louis. Pitcher Michael Wacha went 6.0 shutout innings as he gave up just three hits and struck out seven Giants to get his fourth win of the year. The Cards will send right hander Shelby Miller to the hill on Monday as he comes in with a 6-4 mark in 61.2 innings pitched and a 3.94 ERA. Miller was roughed up in his last start as the New York Yankees to the tune of seven runs on nine hits in 5.0 innings of work. St. Louis is 11-5 in its L/16 contests as the ‘favorite’ as it will be once again on Monday night. The Cardinals lineup is hitting just .229 against lefties this season and they must figure out a way to get some hits in this one. They are 30-27 thus far and they are just below the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central.

The Cardinals are a monster ‘favorite’ so far and they are clearly the better team coming into this game. They are 7-2 in Miller’s L/9 starts at Busch Stadium and that figures to work in their favor on Monday. We like St. Louis to get the job done with its high powered pitching staff that has been shutting opposing teams down as it gives up just 3.37 runs per game. If the Cards can put up some runs on Monday they will have no problem getting the win to open up this series.
