An Interleague match-up will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the Los Angeles Angels travel to face the Atlanta Braves Sunday night at 8:00 ET at Turner Field on ESPN. This will be the rubber match of a three game series with the teams splitting the first two contests.
The Angels bounced back from Friday’s loss with a dominant 11-6 road win on Saturday. Center fielder Mike Trout hit his 13th homerun of the season and first baseman Albert Pujols bashed his 16th in the win. Those two combined for eight RBI’s and four runs scored as Los Angeles had 16 hits. Pitcher Garrett Richards had a strong start going 6.0 innings allowing no runs on four hits. On Sunday lefty Hector Santiago will get the nod as he is still looking for his first win after six consecutive losses to start the year. He was great in his last outing as he went 6.0 innings giving up just three hits and no earned runs in a 2-1 loss to the Oakland Athletics. The Angels have hit lefties well this season batting .256 and scoring 4.63 runs per nine innings. Los Angeles is 11-3 in its L/14 Interleague contests coming into play on Sunday. This team boasts the league’s third ranked offensive unit putting up 4.73 runs per game as they are slightly behing the A’s at 37-30 SU thus far.
The Braves fell after getting a 4-3 win on Friday night as they were outscored 6-1 in the decisive 10th inning on Saturday. Catcher Evan Gattis hit his 15th homer of the year in the loss. Center fielder B.J. Upton also had a big game going 2-for-6 at the dish with two RBI’s and a run scored. Pitcher Gavin Floyd went 6.1 innings giving up four runs on seven hits as he also received a no decision. It will be lefty Mike Minor getting the start for Atlanta as he comes in with a 4.31 ERA in 48 innings pitched and a record of 2-4. Minor got rocked in his last start giving up eight runs on 11 hits in a 13-10 win over the Colorado Rockies in which he received a no decision. The Braves have one of the worst hitting lineups in baseball right now scoring just 3.63 runs per game. If they want a chance against this high scoring Angels team a great night from Minor and a lot of hitting will be needed. Atlanta is just 1-8 in its L/9 Interleague games as it tries to reverse that trend in front of a national audience.
The Angels have been knocking the cover off the ball of late and that almost forces us to like their chances at getting a series win in Atlanta. We expect to see a pair of big hitting nights from Trout and Pujols again as Los Angeles will come out on top in this high scoring battle. The ‘over’ is 7-2 in the Angels L/9 road games and they should improve that mark as well as get a win on Father’s Day evening.
