A National League match-up will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the New York Mets travel to face the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night at 8:10 ET at Busch Stadium on ESPN. This will be the first of a three game series between these two familiar foes.

The Mets took two of three games from the San Diego Padres over the weekend as they sealed the series with a 3-1 win on Sunday. Center fielder Curtis Granderson had a big day going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored as he hit his 13th homerun of the season. Second baseman Daniel Murphy also played well as he added an RBI double in the win. Starting pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka left the game early with a severe upset stomach so reliever Carlos Torres got the win going 4.0 innings giving up one run on three hits. On Monday New York will send right hander Jacob deGrom to the mound as he is 0-3 thus far with a 3.44 ERA in 36.2 innings of work. He took the loss in his last start going 5.2 innings giving up three runs on nine hits. The Mets are 3-9 in their L/12 games overall and will need a big outing from their pitcher to have a chance on the road in this contest.

The Cardinals swept the Washington Nationals over the weekend and they capped it off with a 5-2 win on Father’s Day Sunday. Left fielder Matt Holiday had a nice day going 1-for-2 at the plate as he belted his fifth homer of the year. First baseman Matt Adams also went deep for the sixth time this season in the win. Pitcher Jaime Garcia had a quality start going 7.0 innings giving up one run on five hits as he remained undefeated going 3-0 to this point. Righty Carlos Martinez is also looking for his first win of the season as he will get the call to the hill in this one. This is just a spot start for the youngster who is normally a reliever, he has a 4.67 ERA in 34.2 innings pitched out of the bullpen this season. The Cards are 44-21 in their L/65 home games and they will be the decided ‘favorite’ to get it done on Monday evening.

The Mets have had some good games lately hitting the ball and putting up runs. Despite being a pretty decent ‘underdog’ on Monday we like their chances to get the job done under the arch in St. Louis. We will go against the grain in this game as New York is just 4-12 in its L/16 played at Busch Stadium. Look for a big night out of Murphy and for the Mets to get off to a strong start in this series.
