A National League match-up will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the Washington Nationals travel to face the Milwaukee Brewers Monday night at 8:00 ET on ESPN2 at Miller Park. This will be the first of a three game series between these two teams that lead their respective divisions.

The Nationals split a four game series with the Atlanta Braves thanks to a 4-1 win on Sunday night. Center fielder Denard Span had a solid outing going 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI. First baseman Adam LaRoche was also 2-for-4 and knocked in a run in the win. Pitcher Tanner Roark went 5.1 innings as he ran his record to 7-4 on the year giving up just one earned run on four hits. The bullpen combined for 3.2 innings of work as they didn’t allow a single run or hit in relief. On Monday it will be left hander Gio Gonzalez taking the hill for Washington as it tries to extend its current win streak to three games. Gonzalez has a 3-4 record in 55.2 innings pitched as he comes in with a 4.85 ERA on the season. In his last couple of starts he has been less than impressive losing both times and owning an astronomical 11.68 ERA in those contests. The ‘over’ could be a very likely wager in this one as this is likely to be a battle of who has the best offensive day.

The Brewers were also successful on Sunday as they knocked off the Colorado Rockies 6-5 on the road. Third baseman Aramis Ramirez drilled his 10th homerun of the season as he finished 2-for-4 with two RBI’s and a run scored. Second baseman Rickie Weeks also had a good day at the plate going 2-for-5 with a run scored in the win. Pitcher Kyle Lohse worked 5.0 innings giving up three runs on five hits as he picked up the win to go to 9-2 on the year. Closer Francisco Rodriguez gave up a run in the ninth inning, but recorded his 25th save. It will be right hander Matt Garza getting the nod for Milwaukee on Monday as he comes in with a 4-4 record to go with a 4.02 ERA in 94.0 innings of work. Garza got a no decision in his last start as he gave up three runs on seven hits in a 4-3 loss on the road to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Even on this side the ‘over’ looks good as it is 9-2 in the Brewers L/11 home games.

The Brewers are off to one of the hottest starts in their history as they enter with a SU record of 47-30 at the top of the NL Central standings. We expect to see a high scoring slugfest in this game with Milwaukee standing tall on its home field to get the win. The Brewers have had their way with left handed pitching this season averaging 4.67 runs per nine innings which spells doom for Gonzalez and the Nationals chances on the road.
