An in-state battle will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the San Diego Padres travel to face the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday night at 10:10 ET on FSN at Dodger Stadium. This will be the first of a four game series with the Dodgers coming in as heavy ‘favorites’ on the board.
The Padres fell 6-3 to the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday as they scored three runs in the first five innings, but were shut out the rest of the way. Outfielder Seth Smith hit his 10th homerun of the season in the fifth inning that tied the game at three apiece as he accounted for an RBI and a run scored. Outfielder Chris Denofria went 2-for-5 at the plate with a run scored in the loss. Pitcher Joaquin Benoit was credited with the loss as he gave up three runs on three hits in the eighth inning. Right hander Odrisamer Despaigne will get the start for San Diego on Thursday as he comes in with a 0.92 ERA and a 2-0 record this season. The rookie has been outstanding only working 19.2 innings to this point, but he has only given up two runs and 11 hits in three appearances. In this match-up the ‘under’ will be very tempting to bettors as it is 33-15-3 in the Padres L/51 road games.
The Dodgers went quietly in a 4-1 loss to Detroit Tigers ace Max Scherzer on Wednesday as they managed only four hits. Shortstop Miguel Rojas was credited with the only RBI in the game as he went 1-for-3 at the plate with his first homer of the year. Right fielder Yasiel Puig had two hits including a double and a triple, but nobody could knock him in. Starting pitcher Zach Greinke fell to 11-5 as he went 7.0 innings allowing three runs on seven hits and struck out eight batters. One of the best in the league will take the mound for Los Angeles in this one as Clayton Kershaw enters having not given up a run in his last 36 innings of action. Kershaw has been amazing with a 10-2 record and a 1.85 ERA in 87.1 innings. The Dodgers are 11-4 in their L/15 games as a ‘favorite’ and they now lead the NL West by a half game over the San Francisco Giants. They have been great at home of late going 7-3 in their L/10 games at Dodger Stadium.
The Padres youngster will have to neutralize the Dodgers lineup for his team to have any chance at pulling off what the ‘oddsmakers’ would call an upset. We like the Padres to at least unseat Kershaw from his scoreless streak and find a way to make bettors some good money as far as baseball ‘odds’ are concerned. This should be a low scoring battle with the ‘under’ 10-1 in the L/11 meetings and we look for the Padres to come out on top by a narrow margin.
