We are getting ready to start the second half of the 2023 college football season, and things will really start to heat up now. The race to the College Football Playoff appears to still be wide open, but that’s not really the case.
Four teams are going to have the chance to win the title this season, but that list of options tends to get smaller each week. Beyond that, there are just five teams that realistically have a shot to win a title this season.
Here is a look at those five teams and the odds that they are currently faced with.
Georgia Bulldogs (+285)
The Georgia Bulldogs are looking to win another College Football Playoff title, and they look like the best overall team. Georgia hasn’t been as dominant this year as they have in some others, but they continue to win every game that is in front of them.
This doesn’t feel like a team that is good enough to go undefeated along the way, but they are going to get a chance to defend their crown. It’s impossible to leave Georgia out of this group of teams because someone has to prove they can beat them.
Michigan Wolverines (+375)
The Big Ten Conference has three teams that are in the Top 10, and it’s going to be a battle to even get out of the Big Ten East. With apologies to Ohio State and Penn State, it is the Michigan Wolverines that are clearly the best overall team.
Michigan can do everything well, and they are absolutely destroying teams on their way to another Big Ten championship. This Wolverines team is a serious threat to dethrone Georgia, and it’s worth betting on them at +375 at Bookmaker to get that done.
Oregon Ducks (+800)
The Pac-12 Conference is another league that is loaded with great teams this season, and the Oregon Ducks are the best of the bunch. Oregon has a tough test in Week 7 against the Washington Huskies, but they are going to find a way to get it done on the road.
Quarterback Bo Nix has transformed the Oregon team into one that can win games through the air, and that is an important wrinkle that could allow them to go on a big run this year. The Ducks are going to get a shot, and they are good enough to win some big games.
Florida State Seminoles (+1200)
The ACC is going to get a team in the College Football Playoff this year, and that team is going to be the Florida State Seminoles. It has taken this program a few years to get back into this position, but they look terrific this season.
The Seminoles still have plenty of work to do in order to even get to this point, but they are talented enough to get it done. None of the top teams want to see Florida State in their path because this team is great.
Alabama Crimson Tide (+2000)
The Alabama Crimson Tide can’t afford to lose another game if they want to get to the CFP, but they will have a shot to win it if they get there. This just feels like a year in which Alabama hangs around long enough to win the title at the end of the year.
