Football Pick: Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets Preview

Buffalo Bills

Second place in the AFC East is going to be on the line in NFL betting action on Sunday, when the Buffalo Bills meet the New York Jets for the second time this year.

Buffalo knows that it really has to have this game if wants to stay in the playoff picture. A loss would drop the Bills to just 5-6, and they would lose tiebreakers against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Jets. This team has played terrible ball over the course of the last three weeks though, and things really don’t seem to be getting any easier. Buffalo has lost three straight games and has only scored 26 total points in those duels. All of a sudden, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, who got off to a great start to the season has 16 TDs against 14 INTs, and he has seven picks against just two scores in the last three weeks. He also hasn’t topped more than 210 yards in a game in this stretch even though the Bills have basically trailed from start to finish in all three outings. RB Fred Jackson needs just 66 yards to reach the 1,000 yard barrier, and he is 128 yards away from breaking a career high for rushing yards in a season. Jackson already has career highs in rushing touchdowns (6) and receiving yards (442), and he has truly evolved into one of the top backs in the league. However, he has a calf injury that cost him most of last week’s game against the Miami Dolphins. He should be in the lineup this week, but this is definitely a situation that bears monitoring.

No one really believed that Fitzpatrick was worth the near $60M that the Bills gave him in the middle of this season, but after playing in back to back AFC Championship Games, the hope was there that QB Mark Sanchez would evolve for the Jets. He has 2,333 yards and 14 TDs this year, but he has also thrown 10 INTs. Most of those 10 picks have come at absolutely terrible times, just like last week’s pick in the third quarter against the Denver Broncos that was returned for a touchdown. In the end, it was that pick that really set the Jets back in a game that was theirs for the taking on the road against a supposedly inferior club. The defense has had some meltdowns in the second halves of games, but the one that happened 95 yards away from the end zone that it was defending with less than four minutes to play last week against a quarterback in Tim Tebow that hadn’t really had much progress over the entire game was inexcusable. Now, New York really pretty much has to win out to guarantee itself a playoff bid.

Buffalo Bills @ New York Jets Pick: What we will say about the Jets though, is that they are a totally different team at home. They dominated the first time around when these teams met, and we just don’t see anything in the Bills right now to justify betting on them.
