Florida State Football: Seminoles Recruiting News
- Updated: January 25, 2014
The Florida State Seminoles are the current champions of college football. With that title comes plenty of recruits that flock to the team in hopes of joining a champion and creating a dynasty. If a team can recruit successfully it will build a foundation for successful football at their school. Florida State has always been a great recruiting team that boasts a beautiful location and a very good football team.
After winning the championship over the Auburn Tigers, many recruits signed on to join the team. Their job is far from over as they have sent coaches all over the country in hopes of nabbing superior young athletes.
Florida State tight ends (and national recruiter) coach Tim Brewster will visit top recruit Malik McDowell in Michigan. Others are reporting that coach Odell Haggins will also visit the five-star defensive tackle target.
The Noles are focused on bolstering an already talented defense. Speaking of five-star defensive linemen, Florida State is expecting an official visit this weekend from Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington defensive end Chad Thomas. Thomas is committed to Miami. This is interesting news on a number of fronts. First, Thomas is a long-time and very vocal Miami commitment. With word from Booker T. getting out on a Tuesday, folks from Miami will have plenty of time to convince him not to make the trip. Second, Thomas is the teammate of quarterback/athlete Treon Harris, an FSU commit who is also now looking at a number of schools. We’ll see if Thomas makes the trip. The Noles will try and change his mind on this trip.
The Noles do not stop there as they are very busy this recruiting season. Two other uncommitted five-stars in Malachi Dupre (Louisiana receiver) and Lorenzo Carter (Atlanta defensive end) are also expected in over the weekend. Even with excellent visits, the Noles will have a difficult time signing either of the pair (LSU and Georgia, respectively). Florida State realizes that winning another title is not going to be easy and they have to stay committed to recruiting if they want to stay atop of the college football world.
Because of the recruiting race, the latest college football odds are always changing. The one thing that has stayed constant since the season ended is that the Seminoles are the favorite (11/2) to repeat as champs. The latest college football odds from Bovada Sportsbook also show that Alabama Crimson Tide (13/2) and the Oregon Ducks (12/1) are a few of the other teams that are atop the list.
The Seminoles are very deep and talented from great recruiting over the last few years and as things look now, they are only going to get better.
