ESPN Sunday Night Baseball Betting Preview: New York Yankees vs. New York Mets

New York Yankees
New York Mets
ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball betting affair captures one of the best pitching matchups that you’ll find all season long as the New York Yankees and New York Mets duke it out in the rubber match of their three game set in Flushing. The Yanks won the first game of this series 2-1 but ultimately dropped 5-3 on Saturday night. They are now five games behind the Tampa Bay Rays once again for first place in the AL East standings.
Games like this are why LHP CC Sabathia was brought to the Big Apple. George Steinbrenner and his sons want nothing more than to beat the Mets and the Red Sox on a regular basis. So far, so good for the lefty. He has a 2-0 record and a 1.20 ERA in 15.0 innings of work against the Mets in his career. Sabathia has surprisingly led his team to back-to-back losses after winning five out of six prior to that. All told, the southpaw is 4-2 with a 3.43 ERA and has two complete games under his belt in 2010.
LHP Johan Santana has virtually had the exact same season as Sabathia. He, too has led the Mets to back-to-back losses after winning four out of five. Santana’s numbers (3-2, 3.72 ERA) virtually mirror those of the Bronx Bombers’ left-hander. Unlike in years past when Santana would just mow down batter after batter with strikeouts, his 44 Ks in nine starts feels low by his standards. Santana has faced the Yanks 11 times in his career, going 4-2 with a 4.40 ERA.
Bottom line: You’re never going to find Santana at home as an underdog again. This could literally be a once in a season type of opportunity here and we just can’t pass on it in spite of the fact that these are the Yankees and they are 83-39 in their L/122 games played on legitimate grass.
Selection: New York Mets +130 at Diamond Sportsbook
The Mets are 4-1 in their L/5 baseball wagering wars at home with Santana on the bump, making it all the more puzzling as to why he is an underdog. DSI has all of the run lines, moneylines, and ‘totals’ that your heart desires, so sign up for an account today!
