The Detroit Tigers take on the San Francisco Giants for the first time in five years. These two interleague foes start a two-game series Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Oracle Park in San Francisco, so here’s the best Tigers vs. Giants betting pick.

According to Bookmaker Sportsbook, the Giants are firm -177 home favorites with a total of 7.0 runs. The Tigers are listed as +163 moneyline underdogs.

The Tigers search for their second straight series win

The Detroit Tigers missed a nice opportunity to sweep a three-game road series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. They suffered an 11-7 defeat at Chase Field in Phoenix this past Sunday, falling to 28-44 on the season.

The Tigers have won only four of their last 14 games overall. They still own the lowest-scoring offense in the majors, averaging 3.00 runs per game. In the last couple of weeks, the Tigers have recorded a mediocre .260/.307/.387 slash line across 13 games and 450 at-bats.

Tarik Skubal will toe the slab Tuesday in San Francisco. The 25-year-old left-hander holds a 3.63 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 14 starts (79.1 innings) this season, but he’s been awful as of late. In his previous four starts, Skubal has surrendered a whopping 18 earned runs on 27 hits across 20.2 innings of work.

The Giants hope to get back on the right track

The San Francisco Giants are coming off a disappointing 10-3 home loss to the lowly Cincinnati Reds this past Sunday. They also dropped a three-game series against the Reds, and the 39-33 Giants have won only two of their previous eight games overall.

San Francisco boasts the fourth-highest scoring offense in the big leagues, tallying 4.89 runs per game. However, the Giants surrender 4.33 runs per contest (18th in the MLB), and their pitching staff has been inconsistent all season.

Carlos Rodon will toe the rubber Tuesday, and the 29-year-old left-hander sports a 6-4 record, 2.70 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 101/28 K/BB ratio in 14 starts (80 innings) this season. Rodon has been outstanding through his five starts and 30 frames of work in June, allowing only five runs (four earned) on 17 hits and eight free passes.

Trends:

Detroit:

  • 4-10 in the last 14 games overall
  • 6-12 in the last 18 games on the road
  • 3-7 in the last ten games against San Francisco

San Francisco:

  • 6-3 in the last nine games at home
  • 6-2 in the last eight home games against Detroit

Detroit Tigers vs. San Francisco Giants Pick

Carlos Rodon is the Giants’ best pitcher in June, and I’m looking for another dominant performance when the crafty lefty meets the toothless Tigers offense. On the other side, Tarik Skubal will try to right the ship after some terrible displays in June, and the talented southpaw might have a mountain to climb at Oracle Park.

The Giants are hitting .239/.315/.415 against the left-handed pitchers and own a 112 OPS+ versus the left-handed starters in 2022. If Carlos Rodon continues to dominate his opponents, the Giants will come out on top.

Pick: Take San Francisco Giants at -177

The Total:

The hosts to win would be my best Tigers vs. Giants betting pick for Tuesday night, as I find the totals quite tricky in this matchup. The Tigers’ bullpen continues to play well, posting a 3.15 ERA and 2.86 FIP in the last ten days and 34.1 innings of work, while the Giants’ bullpen is pretty unpredictable and holds a 3.69 ERA and 4.95 FIP over its previous 39 innings pitched.

Carlos Rodon could easily shut down the Cats through five or six innings, but his relievers could surrender a couple of runs. Tarik Skubal will be a key factor, and the total will go over if the Tigers’ lefty puts on another abysmal performance.

Pick: Go over 7.0 runs at -105
