The MLB betting action continues with a 15-game Wednesday card, bringing plenty of intriguing markets to the bettors, so here’s the best Tigers vs. Red Sox betting pick along with the latest odds update on MyBookie Sportsbook

Detroit meets Boston for the closing battle of their six-game regular-season series. The Red Sox have won three of their first four contests against the Tigers in 2022, while Game 5 has been excluded from this preview. The Sawx are -141 home favorites for Wednesday night’s clash at Fenway Park in Boston.

The Tigers returned to losing ways

Last Sunday, the Detroit Tigers defeated the Texas Rangers 7-3 for their second straight victory. They hammered Texas 14-7 this past Saturday to snap a six-game skid, and the Tigers returned to losing ways with that 5-2 loss at Fenway Park on Monday night.

Detroit sat at the fourth spot in the AL Central on Tuesday, holding a poor 26-41 record. The Tigers were seven games behind the third-placed Chicago White Sox and only a game and a half ahead of the Kansas City Royals. They owned the lowest-scoring offense in the majors, notching 2.87 runs per contest.

Tarik Skubal will take the mound Wednesday in Boston and try to avoid his third straight loss. The 25-year-old lefty has yielded nine earned runs on 15 hits and four walks over his previous two starts and nine innings of work. Skubal is 5-4 with a 3.13 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 79/14 K/BB ratio in 13 starts (74.2 frames) this season.

The Red Sox continue to climb the AL East standings

The Boston Red Sox improved their record to 37-31 for the season following Monday’s victory to the Tigers. They overtook the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East and were sitting at the third spot, a game and a half behind the second-placed Toronto Blue Jays and 13.5 games behind the New York Yankees.

The Red Sox have gone 14-4 through their first 18 outings in June, scoring 87 runs on a .258/.332/.403 slash line. Their pitching staff has been outstanding so far this month, compiling a strong 2.73 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and .223 opposing batting average.

Michael Wacha will toe the slab Wednesday and meet the Tigers for the second time in 2022. The 30-year-old righty was charged for a loss in a 3-1 defeat at Comerica Park in Detroit in the opening week, allowing one earned run across 4.1 innings of work. Wacha is 5-1 with a shiny 2.28 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 11 starts (59.1 innings) this season.

Trends:

Detroit:

  • 2-7 in the last nine games overall
  • 4-9 in the last 13 games on the road

Boston:

  • 14-4 in the last 18 games overall
  • 6-2 in the last eight games at home
  • 8-2 in Michael Wacha’s last ten starts

Detroit Tigers vs. Boston Red Sox Pick

Michael Wacha is one of the most pleasant surprises of the 2022 MLB season. He’s doing a great job for the Red Sox, and I’m expecting another strong display when he takes on the lowest-scoring in baseball. Wacha has allowed only four earned runs over his previous four starts.

On the other side, Tarik Skubal will try to break out of his funk. The talented lefty has yielded 12 earned runs in his past three appearances. He’ll have a difficult task slowing down Boston’s offense, which should make the difference in this matchup.

Pick: Take Boston Red Sox at -141

The Total:

Both bullpens have regressed in the last ten days of action. The Tigers have registered a 5.23 ERA and .387 BABIP across 41.1 innings of work, while the Red Sox have accounted for a 5.16 ERA and 4.24 FIP through 29.2 frames.

Detroit desperately needs a strong performance from Tarik Skubal. The Tigers’ offense will be in trouble if Michael Wacha continues to impress, so Skubal has to keep the Saw quiet for as long as possible. I lean toward the under, but Fenway Park is a tricky place for the under backers.

Pick: Go under 8.5 runs at +105
