The Pistons had no trouble getting past the New York Knicks in their last game, 122-102, easily covering as 3.5-point favorites. Andre Drummond was the top scorer from either team with 27 points on 12-for-16 shooting. Detroit dominated nearly every facet of the game. They had an offensive rebounding percentage of 24.2 (above their season average of 22.2) and a free throw rate of 0.241 (above their season average of 0.228). New York put up marks of 12.5 and 0.163, respectively, for those same stats. The two teams combined to put up 224 points, which finished well over the O/U total of 205.5.
The last time the Pacers took the floor, they easily covered the 3-point spread against the Washington Wizards, 121-106. Domantas Sabonis played well for Indiana, finishing with 13 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists. Indiana played a nearly flawless game. They had a turnover percentage of 11.0 (better than their season average of 12.0) and an effective field goal percentage of 0.532 (above their season average of 0.505). Washington recorded marks of 13.4 and 0.458, respectively, for those same stats. The two clubs combined to score 227 points, which finished just under the O/U total of 227.5.
Half-court execution will be at a premium when a pair of the NBA’s slowest-paced teams clash. Indiana ranks 24th in possessions per game (100.3) and Detroit is 25th (100.3) dating back to the 2018-19 season. Furthermore, the Pistons’ 21st-ranked offense (offensive efficiency of 106.5) will face a tough test against the Pacers’ fourth-ranked defense (defensive efficiency of 104.6).
These two teams are complete opposites in terms of the O/U total. Detroit games have gone over 55.6 percent of the time, while games involving Indiana have finished under 62.5 percent of the time.
