The Broncos believe in Teddy B 

The last year was tough for the injury-depleted Broncos who went 5-11 and finished bottom of the AFC West. In his second NFL season, Drew Lock has struggled for most of the time, completing just 57.3 percent of his passing attempts for 2933 yards and 16 touchdowns in 13 apps. Lock also had a whopping 15 interceptions and got sacked 19 times, so the Broncos acquired Teddy Bridgewater in the offseason.

Teddy B will get the nod in Week 1 after a solid 2020 campaign with the Carolina Panthers. He had 3733 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 11 picks in 15 games while completing 69.1 percent of his passing attempts. Bridgewater is not a top-tier QB, but he could be the right choice for the Broncos’ offense that owns solid receiving corps.

Denver was scoring only 20.2 points per game in 2020 (28th in the NFL) on 335.6 total yards (23rd). The Broncos were yielding 27.9 points in a return (25th), but it’s fair to say that their defensive performance was massively affected by injuries.

The Giants hope for a breakthrough season     

The New York Giants went 6-10 last season and missed the playoffs for the fourth straight year, as the 7-9 Washington Football Team clinched the NFC East title. That tells a lot about both NY Giants and NFC East, but without Saquon Barkley, who suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2, the Giants had the second-lowest scoring offense in football.

New York was averaging a paltry 17.5 points per game in 2021. In his second season with the big boys, Daniel Jones proved he’s a turnover machine, recording 10 interceptions and 11 fumbles in 14 appearances. Jones also completed 62.5 percent of his passing attempts for 2943 yards and 11 touchdowns while adding 65 totes for 423 yards and a TD.

At least, the Giants had a solid 2020 season on the defensive end, allowing 22.3 points per game (9th in the NFL) on 349.3 total yards (12th). Joe Judge will demand more in his second season as the Giants head coach, and New York certainly has an intriguing defensive core.

The Giants have some injury problems, and TE Evan Engram is likely out, but Saquon Barkley should play, as well as WR Kenny Golladay. Daniel Jones will have to take good care of the ball, as Sunday’s clash should be decided down the stretch.

I’m looking for a hard-fought battle, as both teams will lean on their defense. Hereof, with three points on the table, I’m backing the Giants to cover in front of the home fans. Both teams have a lot to prove in 2021, especially on the offensive side of the ball, so this game could easily go either way.

After a disappointing 2020 season, the Broncos’ D should be much better this term. The Giants will look to improve, too, while both head coaches prefer to lean on a tough defense. Hereof, betting on the under is a logical move despite a 42-point line.
