The Orange of Syracuse (-28) are ready to welcome the Connecticut Huskies to the Carrier Dome. This afternoon game will begin at 4:00 p.m. ET and interested parties can watch the action live on ESNN.

Connecticut vs. Syracuse Betting Odds

Syracuse has been tabbed as the heavy favorite and is currently giving up 28 points to Connecticut. If the Orange fall behind early it would generate a solid betting opportunity in-game. The over/under has been set at 73.5 points.

The game’s total has swung higher after opening at 73. The original line has not budged.

The Huskies are 1-2 straight up (SU) while the Orange are 3-0 SU. The Huskies have recorded 1.0 unit so far and are 0-3 against the spread (ATS). The team has posted an Over-Under record of 2-0.

The Orange are up 2.5 units this season. The team is 3-0 ATS and has an O/U record of 2-1.

The Huskies enter after a 56-49 win over Rhode Island last week. The Huskies defense allowed the Rams to pass for 351 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 199 yards and three scores. Offensively, David Pindell completed 20 passes on 27 attempts for 308 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Pindell (137 rushing yards on 26 attempts, two TDs) also led the ground attack and was complemented by Kevin Mensah (144 yards on 25 carries, two TDs). Hergy Mayala (five receptions, 44 yards, two TDs) and Tyler Davis (three catches, 51 yards) shared the receiving duties in the win.

Syracuse is coming off of a 30-7 win over Florida State. As a group, the Orange collectively completed 18-of-31 passes for 219 yards and one touchdown. Tommy Devito went 11-for-16 for 144 yards and one touchdown while Eric Dungey was seven-of-15 for 75 yards. Moe Neal (75 yards on 19 rush attempts) and Dontae Strickland (36 yards on 13 carries, one TD) handled the running game while Jamal Custis (four receptions, 56 yards) and Sean Riley (four catches, 27 yards) led the receiving attack in the win.

Connecticut has run the ball on 58.4 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Syracuse has an overall rush percentage of 63.3 percent. The Huskies have run for 202 yards/game and have five touchdowns on the ground this year. The Orange are totaling 257 rush yards per contest and have nine total rushing TDs.

The Huskies have averaged 215 yards in the air overall and have six passing TDs so far. The Orange have recorded 229 pass yards per outing and have eight total pass scores.

Connecticut has allowed opponents to rush for an average of 298 yards and pass for 375 yards per game. Syracuse has been significantly better than that, giving up 115.0 rushing yards per game and 268.0 to opposing teams in the air. The Orange are allowing an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of only 4.96 to opponents, while the Huskies have given up a whopping 12.69 ANY/A.

Pindell has put up 574 passing yards this year. He’s connected on 47-of-68 attempts with five passing touchdowns and two interceptions. Pindell’s got an 8.59 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 7.88 over the last two games.

We expect the Connecticut offense to mix it up in this one. Kevin Mensah (203 rushing yards, two rush TDs this season), David Pindell (177 rush yards, three rush TDs, 0 receiving yards) and Hergy Mayala (75 receiving yards, two TDs) have each played significant roles lately.

For the home team, Eric Dungey has recorded 259 yards, two TDs and zero INTs. Dungey’s ANY/A sits at 8.73 for the year and 6.76 across his past two games.

We’re looking for the Orange to maintain tempo by feeding their running backs early and often. Backfield mates Moe Neal (159 rush yards, two rush TDs), Jarveon Howard (55 rush yards), and Dontae Strickland (74 rush yards, three rush TDs, 51 receiving yards) have really been focal points in the Syracuse offense.
