College Football Lock of the Week – Week 13
- Updated: November 21, 2011
College football has its share of games that look very inviting to bet on. In football betting circles, that can be known as a lock, also known as the best bet on the board that cannot lose. Finding that type of bet is difficult, but very rewarding when it pays off.
This week that lock is in the SEC.
For a quick look at locks it’s time to look at the classic rivalry game between The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers. Every year these two teams meet on the football field to play in what it commonly known as the Iron bowl. Regardless of the records these two teams always show up with energy, excitement, and motivation to try and steal in-state bragging rights from the other.
The opening odds for this game opened up with the Tide as 21 point favorites. This is no surprise as the Tide is the No. 2 team in the country and they have a realistic shot of playing for the National Championship. The public jumped on the Bama bandwagon and this line is now at 21.5 and climbing. There is a very good chance that this number could be closer to 23 by kickoff.
Auburn had a rough start to the season after losing most of their core of their National Championship team from a year ago. However since then, they have started to mold into a top team in the country and have been getting production from the offense.
The Crimson Tide are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games in November which is a sign that they lose focus in unimportant games. The Tigers are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 conference games, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games against a team with a winning road record, and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games as a home underdog.
The Auburn Tigers may not win this game, but they will give it all they got and keep it close.
