In this Stock Watch article, we take a look at a few college basketball teams that should catch your attention from a handicapping standpoint. This could be a good or a bad thing and in this case, both. Here is one team to bet on and one to avoid this week in college basketball.
On The Rise
San Diego State Aztecs
Not many people follow the Mountain West Conference, but there is a team that is making waves in college basketball. The Aztecs are no longer a big secret as they are atop the college basketball rankings and will be making waves for the remainder of the week, especially this week. The Aztecs are playing great although they are not one hundred percent healthy. With leading rebounder Josh Davis sidelined by a bruised knee and forward Dwayne Polee out with an illness, the Aztecs won their 18th straight game and reached 8-0 in conference play for the first time in the program’s 93-year history. They have a great coach and great chemistry. They have a big schedule this week with games against Boise State and Nevada and they will put forth a great effort. Watch the Aztecs this week and for the rest of the season as they will be on the rise.
On the Decline
Wichita State Shockers
The Wichita State Shockers are one of the best teams in college basketball, but they are going to begin to struggle over the next few games. The college basketball landscape features only a few teams left that are undefeated and the Shockers are one of those teams. That will put tremendous pressure on this team as they try and make history. Wichita State has a 38.5-percent chance of finishing the regular season with an undefeated record, meaning two wins this week will nearly double the Shockers’ odds at history. That’s because the two most-challenging games left on the schedule are this week. First up is Wednesday at Indiana State. Then comes Saturday at Northern Iowa. This is a difficult stretch of schedule for the Shockers and they will be overvalued. Although they are very good, the Shockers are a team to fade in the next few games. They will have a resurgent return to glory in the tournament but will struggle now.
