College Basketball Betting Preview: Georgetown Hoyas vs. Louisville Cardinals

(18-7, 11-10 ATS)
(18-9, 8-14 ATS)
Tuesday night’s top college basketball betting battle pits Big East foes against each other. The Georgetown Hoyas will invade Freedom Hall, where they will match wits with the Louisville Cardinals. The Hoyas are sliding, having lost back-to-back games. They’re just 5-5 SU and ATS in their L/10 overall and probably still need a win or two to feel comfortable about making the NCAA Tournament. Louisville’s situation is much more dire. The Cards are probably in the field of 65 right now because of their three-game winning streak (and five out of six SU), but a tough schedule down the stretch could still leave HC Rick Pitino’s team on the outside of the dance looking in when it’s said and done.
For the season, the Hoyas are only allowing 65.3 points per game. Though that number is great, it was significantly better just a few weeks ago. Over their L/7 games, Georgetown has allowed 75.4 points per game, and each of the seven foes have reached at least 70 points. What’s keeping the Hoya Destroya going is its offense, though. That unit has dropped 103 on Villanova and 89 on Duke in recent weeks. G Austin Freeman is really starting to flourish in Big East play. He has scored at least 17 points in seven straight games, while G’Town’s big man, C Greg Monroe has averaged 18.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game in his L/10.
The Cardinals are going to utilize their pressure defense to keep the ball out of Monroe’s hands as much as possible. However, even though Louisville is known for forcing plenty of turnovers, this season’s team is giving the ball back just as often. The Cards are committing 13.8 blunders per game, a number that just isn’t going to cut it if they are going to make yet another deep run into March Madness. Leading scorer F Samardo Samuels (16.1 points, 7.1 rebounds per game) should be in for a heck of a test on the inside against Monroe.
Home court advantage has been absolutely imperative this season in the Big East. Between that, recent form, and motivation, it’s hard to not want to buy into what Louisville is selling. The Cards may only be 1-4 ATS in their L/5 games, but they should be able to take it to the Hoyas to continue their hot run on Tuesday night.
