College Basketball Betting: Duke Blue Devils vs. St. John’s Red Storm Pick

Duke Blue Devils
(19-1, 10-9 ATS)
St. John’s Red Storm
(11-8, 7-11 ATS)

Almost every single season, the Duke Blue Devils and the St. John’s Red Storm meet up on the hardwood. This season, the scene shifts to Madison Square Garden, where the two will engage in NCAA basketball wagering warfare.

The Dookies are chock full of a fantastic players this year even though Kyrie Irving isn’t included in the bunch. Since losing to the Florida State Seminoles, they have absolutely been steamrolling teams, putting together four straight victories by at least 14 points. Duke is getting 20.5 points per game this year out of Nolan Smith, who is one of the top guards in the nation. Don’t forget about the play of Kyle Singler either, as he too, is a contender for AP National Player of the Year honors. He is averaging 17.8 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding at 6.3 per game. Keep a close eye on Mason Plumlee in the post. He is averaging just 6.9 points per game on the campaign, but he is the team’s leading rebounder at 8.9 boards per night. His minutes are incredibly quality, as he is only averaging 24.5 minutes per game on average. Smith and Singler are the real minute eaters though, as both rarely leave the court.

This might be the best chance that the Johnnies have had at winning a game in this series in a number of years. They are potentially an NCAA Tournament team this year, but they have really fallen upon hard times, losing three straight and five out of six both SU and ATS overall. Home hasn’t exactly been where the heart is for the Red Storm either, as they are just 3-5 ATS at Madison Square Garden this season as well. The offensive efforts for St. John’s isn’t all that great, but there are definitely some fantastic weapons to choose from. Dwight Hardy might only be shooting 40.6 percent from the field, but he is scoring 14.5 points per game this year to lead the team. Justin Brownlee is down right now, having scored just 12 total points in his last two games, but he is still putting up a healthy 13.2 points per night. DJ Kennedy can be an explosive firecracker, but he too, is struggling, and he is only averaging 10.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. About the only thing saving St. John’s at this point is the fact that it has played some stellar defense, allowing teams to score just 66.7 points per game on the campaign.

The Johnnies are in over their heads in this one. Every single year, St. John’s thinks that it can beat the Dookies, and seemingly every single year, it is turned away. Duke knows what it is like to play here at MSG, and it isn’t going to be intimidated. The Blue Devils should roll to another brutal beat down on Sunday.
