On Thursday night NBA betting action will feature the battle of Hollywood when the Los Angeles Lakers play host to the Los Angeles Clippers at 10:30 ET on TNT inside the Staples Center.
The Clippers grabbed a road win on Tuesday as they defeated the Phoenix Suns 104-96 in their last game. Leading the way for L.A. was F Matt Barnes who scored a season-high 28 points and grabbed six rebounds in the win. Superstar F Blake Griffin was also a major contributor in the game he scored 22 points, to go with six assists, and five boards. Griffin is having an outstanding year averaging 24.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. This team got a boost a couple weeks ago when G Chris Paul returned from a shoulder injury that had sidelined him for a month. They are 7-3 SU in the 10 games since Paul has been back in the lineup and he has scored double figures in nine of those games. The tables have turned drastically for the battle of L.A. this season as the Clippers are a playoff contender while the Lakers are just playing out the string at this point. The boys in red are technically the road team in this one even though its home games are played at the Staples Center as well, so just for fun we’ll tell you they are 17-15 SU on the road this season.
The Lakers took a 132-125 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans at home on Tuesday as they continued a nightmare season. The loss took them to an awful 10-18 on their home floor. This team is desperately lacking star power as F Pau Gasol is pretty much all they have left from the glory days. Gasol scored 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds in Tuesday’s game, but it wasn’t enough to carry his team to victory. The Lake Show does have a new contributor in F Kent Bazemore, he added 23 points, four rebounds, and three assists against the Pelicans. The Old Dominion product has posted double figures in his first eight games with the Lakers since being sent over from the Golden State Warriors. One of the key contributors to this team has been F Nick Young who averages 16.8 points per game. He is questionable for this game with a knee injury that has forced him to miss the last five games. That is just another in a laundry list of injuries that has had this team playing without its leader G Kobe Bryant for a majority of the season.
The Clippers destroyed the Lakers in the last meeting 123-87 back on January 10th at Staples. It’s really hard to believe the result will differ much as the Lakers continue to battle injuries and mediocre play this season. We expect to see Paul and Griffin have a strong outing for the Clippers and blow the Lakers right out of their own building. Los Angeles will be painted red on Thursday as the Clippers will soundly defeat their roommates. Los Angeles Clippers 124 – Los Angeles Lakers 105
