The MLB is giving us the fifth and final game of this exciting ALDS which will be played on Monday, October 17, so don’t forget to read the best Guardians vs. Yankees betting pick and odds.

Cleveland and New York will play the fifth of a best-of-five ALDS series at Yankee Stadium, and the Yankees are -150 moneyline favorites on MyBookie Sportsbook, while the total is set at 7.5 runs. These AL rivals have met six times this season before the playoff series, and the Yankees won five of those tilts. The current series is tied at 2-2.

Guardians couldn’t beat the Yankees to progress to ALCS

The Cleveland Guardians were close to making an upset and joining the Houston Astros in the ALCS with one last victory over the New York Yankees. However, the Yanks responded with a 4-2 win and tied the series, which is now going back to the Bronx.

It didn’t start well for the Guardians in Game 4 as they trailed 3-0 after the opening two innings. They did score a couple of runs in the 3rd and 4th through Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor, who blasted a solo homer, but that was all from Cleveland’s offense in this loss. Cal Quantrill took a loss after pitching for 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk.

Aaron Civale (5-6) will get on the bump for the Guardians in Game 5 of this ALDS against New York on Monday. The 27-year-old right-hander started 20 games this season and has a 4.92 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 98/22 K/BB ratio over 97.0 innings of work.

Gerrit Cole keeps the Yankees alive

The New York Yankees forced Game 5 of the ALDS with the Cleveland Guardians and avoid an upset, so they will have a chance to beat the rivals at home and advance to the ALCS where the Houston Astros are waiting. We already had some surprises in this year’s MLB postseason, and not seeing the Yankees against the Astros in the ALCS would be one of them.

The Yanks were never in a losing position in crucial Game 4 as they got to an early 3-0 lead. Anthony Rizzo hit an RBI single in the opening inning before Harrison Bader clobbered a two-run homer in the 2nd – it was his 3rd home run of the ALDS. The Guardians did cut the deficit to 3-2, but Giancarlo Stanton’s sacrifice fly in the 6th put this game to bed. Gerrit Cole was excellent in his start and was credited with a win after pitching for 7.0 innings, surrendering two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and a walk. Wandy Peralta earned a save.

Jameson Taillon (14-5) will start for the first time this postseason when he takes on the Guardians in Game 5 of the ALDS on Monday. The 30-year-old right-hander had 32 starts this year and owns a respectable 3.91 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 151/32 K/BB ratio across 177.1 innings of work.

Trends:

Cleveland:

  • 2-8 in the last ten Divisional Playoff games
  • 4-10 in the last 14 playoff games
  • 1-6 in the last seven playoff road games

New York:

  • 13-5 in the last 18 games with the total set at 7.0-8.5
  • 5-2 in the last seven when their opponent scores two runs or less in their previous game

Cleveland Guardians vs. New York Yankees Pick

Aaron Civale had his previous start 12 days ago against Kansas City, and over his last five starts, he allowed at least two runs. He started two games against the Yankees this season and lost both with a 10.00 ERA in 9.0 innings. Anthony Rizzo and Gleyber Torres have great numbers against Civale, who will have his postseason debut on Monday. On the other side, Jameson Taillon already appeared in this year’s playoffs and took a loss in Game 2 of the ALDS as he didn’t manage to get even one out, allowing two runs on three hits after coming in as a closer. In his lone start against Cleveland this season, Taillon registered a win with a 1.80 ERA over 5.0 innings. Although he also doesn’t have real playoff experience, I like him better in this pitching matchup.

Pick: Take the Yankees to win (-150)

The Total

Three of four games of this series were low-scoring, and even though this one will decide the second ALCS participant, I expect a bit more action from batters. Civale and Taillon are not aces; I already mentioned Civale’s recent numbers, and it’s important to add that Taillon also surrendered multiple runs in six of his previous seven starts. They don’t have the steady hands, nerves, quality, and experience as Cole and Bieber, so I expect them to allow some runs here. Over is 4-0 in Civale’s last four starts overall, while Over is 7-3 in the Yankees’ previous ten vs. American League Central rivals.

Pick: Go Over 7.5 runs (-110)
