Will the Boston Celtics show some signs of life in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Friday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers? It was ugly in Game 1 for Boston, as they were routed 117-104 in a game that wasn’t close after the first quarter, as Cleveland led 61-39 at the half. Boston missed a lot of wide open shots and they played no defense on LeBron James who ripped through them for 38 points. Let’s look at Friday’s Game 2 on TNT and NBA Playoff picks.
The Cleveland Cavaliers visit the Boston Celtics in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Friday, May 19th, with a start time of 8:30 pm Eastern on TNT.
Game 2 NBA Playoff Odds
Cleveland -5.5, total 219.5
Cavaliers vs. Celtics
Many people thought the Cavaliers would be rusty after a long layoff but that was not the case, as Cleveland rolled over Boston in Game 1. LeBron James and Kevin Love were unstoppable and Boston didn’t hit enough shots to stay with Cleveland. James had 38 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists while, Kevin Love had 32 points and 12 rebounds. “It was our two bigs that set the tone — Kev and Double-T (Tristan Thompson), they were phenomenal,” James said after the game. “I saw it in Kev this morning. I knew what type of game he was going to have. So he came through for us.”
Boston didn’t hit shots, as they missed 11 of their 14 shots and by halftime the game was over. Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder had 21 points each while Isaiah Thomas had just 17 points.
The Celtics are not going to stop Cleveland from scoring, as the Cavaliers simply have too many weapons but Boston can at least make things more competitive if they hit their own shots. Boston finished with 14 turnovers and they lost at home for the first time since Game 2 of their series against the Bulls.
Cleveland has won 12 straight playoff games going back to last season. They are 33-4 in their last 37 games against Eastern Conference teams, including 16-3 on the road.
The Cavaliers are 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings in Boston. The Cavaliers are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Celtics are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games. The Over is 14-6 in the Cavaliers last 20 Conference Finals games. The Over is 12-3-1 in the Celtics last 16 home games.
NBA Playoff Picks
I had the over in Game 1 and it worked out even though Boston didn’t do much. It is reasonable to assume that the Celtics will play much better offensively in Game 2 and I don’t see them slowing down Cleveland. Oddsmakers have made no adjustment to the total from Game 1 and I think Game 2 will be even higher scoring, so I will go over the total.
