The 2022 MLB season goes on Friday, May 20, with the marquee American League matchup at Yankee Stadium in New York, so we bring you the best White Sox vs. Yankees betting pick, tips, and odds.

The Chi Sox and Yanks open a three-game set, as they meet for the second and final time this season. Last week, the Yankees won a four-game series in Chicago, 3-1. New York is a strong -185 moneyline fave for Friday’s clash, while the White Sox sit at +170 with a total of 8.0 runs on BetOnline Sportsbook

The White Sox returned to losing ways

After winning seven straight games in the first week of May, the Chicago White Sox have dropped six of their next ten contests. At the time of writing, Chicago is trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, hoping to avoid its third consecutive defeat.

Last Wednesday, the White Sox lost 6-2 at the Royals and fell to 18-19 on the season. It was another awful night for their offense, as the Chi Sox scored just two runs on ten hits. On the other side of the ball, Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, and Ryan Burr allowed a couple of runs each.

The White Sox own the fifth-lowest scoring offense in the majors, tallying 3.46 runs per game. They rank 29th in on-base percentage (.283) and 25th in slugging (.351). On the other side of the ball, the Chi Sox have a 3.70 ERA (14th in the MLB) but surrender 4.27 runs per game (21st).

Dallas Keuchel (2-3; 5.54 ERA; 1.96 WHIP) will take the mound Friday and face the Yanks for the second time in 2022. He tossed five scoreless frames in a no-decision against the Bombers last Saturday, but Chicago lost 3-2 eventually. The veteran lefty scattered four hits and issued three free passes while punching out three.

The Yankees look to bounce back from a tough loss at Baltimore

The 28-10 New York Yankees are coming off a 9-6 defeat at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Thursday afternoon. The Yanks put an end to their four-game winning streak and blew a chance to sweep a four-game road series against the Baltimore Orioles.

New York still owns the best record in the majors. The Yankees boast the second-best run differential in baseball (+72) and the highest OPS (.749), while their pitching staff carries the second-lowest ERA (2.86). New York has allowed only 29 home runs through its first 38 games of the season.

Nestor Cortes (2-1; 1.35 ERA; 0.85 WHIP) will toe the slab Friday, aiming for his second straight win. Last Sunday, the 27-year-old southpaw tortured the White Sox in a 5-1 victory, yielding only one earned run on three hits across eight frames of work. New York is 4-1 in Cortes’ last five starts (30.2 innings pitched).

Trends:

Chi Sox:

  • 2-10 in the last 12 games against the Yankees

NY Yankees:

  • 4-1 in the last five home games against the White Sox
  • 9-2 in the last 11 games overall
  • 11-1 in the last 12 games at home

Chicago White Sox vs. New York Yankees Pick

Dallas Keuchel kept the Yankees off the scoreboard last Saturday, but he also had a poor CSW of 23 percent. Keuchel carries a pedestrian ERA and WHIP, while his FIP sits at 5.09, so it’s hard to trust him in this matchup.

Giancarlo Stanton is 6-for-11 with a couple of dingers against Keuchel. Aaron Judge is 4-for-13, Isiah Kiner-Falefa is 5-for-13, and Josh Donaldson has nine hits and two homers in 38 at-bats versus Keuchel. The Yankees are slashing .238/.308/.434 against the southpaws in 2022. If Cortes continues with his strong performance, the hosts will come out on top.

Pick: Take New York Yankees at -185

The Total:

Nestor Cortes dominated the Chi Sox last weekend, allowing no free passes and striking out seven. However, the White Sox are way more dangerous when hitting the lefties (.250/.321/.408), so I’m expecting them to challenge Cortes this time around.

On the other side, I would be surprised if the Yankees struggle against Dallas Keuchel once more. Also, Chicago’s bullpen has recorded a miserable 7.36 ERA and 4.66 FIP over the last seven days, so I’m backing the over on the totals.

Pick: Go over 8.0 runs at -125
