Point Spread: Brooklyn -4.5
Chicago will quickly need to put its dreadful performance in Saturday’s Game 1 loss behind to avoid falling into a 0-2 hole in this best-of-seven opening round playoff series. After managing to score just 14 points in the first quarter of that series opener, the Bulls went on to lose 106-89 as 4.5-point road underdogs. The total went well OVER the 181.5-point line as a result of Chicago giving-up more than 100 points for just the fourth time in their last 11 games.
The key to turning things around in Game 2 is not necessarily pinned on the Bulls’ ability to score more points, rather to play to the defensive level that had this team ranked third in the league in points allowed (92.9). They gave up 60 points to the Brooklyn Nets in the first half which sealed their fate for the day.
As bad as the Chicago Bulls played in Game 1, the Nets have to be thrilled with their overall performance. Behind Brook Lopez and Deron Williams’ combined 43 points, they lit up the scoreboard with a 106 points after averaging just 96.8 points a game on the year. Brooklyn’s defense also came to play, which was expected, after it finished the regular season ranked sixth in the league points allowed (95.1).
As a team, the Nets shot an impressive 55.8 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range. They also showed excellent balance on offense with six different players posting at least 12 points. Brooklyn averaged 42.8 rebounds a game this season and came away with the 39-35 edge in Game 1.Overall, the most encouraging aspect of this win has to be the continuation of an solid form that led to a 7-2 straight-up record in its last nine regular season games. The Nets went 5-4 against the spread during this stretch of games.

Brooklyn is as good as advertised, especially at home where it has now gone 27-15 SU this year, but the Bulls are not that bad. Look for a much better effort from Chicago this Monday night that may not result in a SU win, but is good enough to cover with the 4.5 points.
Brooklyn 93 Chicago 89
