A couple of schools that prefer to run the football, Monarchs (+8.5) are gearing up to welcome the Charlotte 49ers (-8.5) to Old Dominion. This conference matchup kicks off at 2:00 p.m. ET and interested parties can view the action live on ESPN+. When the two squads met a year ago, Charlotte knocked off Old Dominion by a field goal 28-25.

Charlotte at Old Dominion Betting Odds 11/30/2019

In this Saturday Conference USA game, Charlotte is labeled as the heavy favorite and is currently giving up 8.5 points. The 49ers are also receiving -350 moneyline odds while the Monarchs are +270. Oddsmakers have placed the over/under (O/U) at 50 points. If Charlotte allows a touchdown or two early on, it would probably create a worthy live betting opportunity.

The 49ers have gained 3.5 units so far in 2019 and are 5-6 against the spread (ATS). The team’s posted an O/U record of 7-4.

The disappointing Monarchs have lost 9.1 units this season. They’re 4-7 ATS and own an O/U record of 4-7.

The 49ers are 6-5 straight up (SU), including 4-3 SU against CUSA opponents. The Monarchs are 1-10 SU overall and 0-7 SU in conference play.

Charlotte enters this matchup on a zero-game losing streak while Old Dominion has won zero in a row. The 49ers are trying to maintain momentum following a solid 24-13 victory over Marshall last week. Chris Reynolds completed only nine passes on 21 attempts for 166 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Reynolds (145 rushing yards on 25 attempts, one TD) also spearheaded the running attack and was complemented by Benny LeMay (100 yards on 21 carries). Victor Tucker (five receptions, 121 yards, one TD) and Christian Roberson (one catch, 29 yards) shared the receiving duties in the win.

Old Dominion just fell 38-17 to Middle Tennessee. The defense let the Blue Raiders eat up the clock by rushing for 147 yards on 35 attempts, along with one rushing TD. Asher O’Hara put up a solid showing in the win for Middle Tennessee, recording 78 rushing yards on 14 attempts. For Old Dominion, Hayden Wolff completed 39-of-65 passes for 321 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Robert Washington (44 rushing yards on nine attempts, one TD) spearheaded the running game while Aaron Moore (14 receptions, 194 yards, one TD) and Marcus Joyner (six catches, 44 yards) led the pass-catching corps in the loss.

Charlotte has run the ball on 61.1 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Old Dominion has an overall rush percentage of 53.1 percent. The 49ers have produced 208 rush yards/game (including 177 per game versus Conference USA opponents) and have 23 scores on the ground this year. The Monarchs are logging 90 rushing yards per game (71 in conference) and have 13 total rush TDs.

It appears that the 49ers may have the more disruptive lines up front. Their offensive line has yielded only 38 sacks while the D-line registered 19 sacks. The Monarchs, on the other hand, have allowed 32 sacks and their defense has forced only 22 sacks.

The Niners offensive scheme has averaged 217 yards in the air overall (235 per game against conference opposition) and has 21 passing TDs so far. The Monarchs have produced 177 pass yards per outing (179.3 in the CUSA) and have five total pass scores.

Charlotte should have the upper hand when it comes to limiting the pass. The team’s allowed opponents to run for an average of 194 yards and pass for 199 yards per game. The Old Dominion D has allowed 228.7 yards per game to opposing passers and 139.1 yards per game on the ground. Both teams allow similar adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) to opponents, as the Niners have given up an ANY/A of 7.48 to opposing QBs, while the Monarchs are allowing an ANY/A of 7.31.

Reynolds is up to 1,846 passing yards this season, and has completed 133-of-220 attempts with 17 passing touchdowns and eight interceptions. Reynolds has a 7.58 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 7.77 over the last two outings.

Expect Reynolds to spread the ball around early and often in this one. Chris Reynolds (394 receiving yards), Victor Tucker (670 yards, five TDs) and Cameron Dollar (394 yards, two TDs) have all been heavily involved recently.

On the other sideline, Hayden Wolff has completed 58-of-100 passes for 490 yards, one TD and two INTs. Wolff’s ANY/A sits at a very poor 3.86 for the year and 5.27 across his past two games.

We’re looking for Monarchs to control the clock by feeding their running backs early and often. In addition to Aaron Moore (277 receiving yards, two receiving TDs), Lala Davis (270 rush yards, three rush TDs) and Blake Watson (69 rush yards) have been significant factors in the Old Dominion offense.
