Champions League Betting Preview: Inter Milan vs. Bayern Munich

The eyes of the soccer betting world may be on South Africa for the World Cup in the upcoming month, but on Saturday afternoon, everyone will be glued to Fox Sports for the broadcast of the Champions League Final between Inter Milan and Bayern Munich at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid.

Inter Milan comes to the table as the Italian Serie A champions for the fifth consecutive season. The Italian champs needed a 1-0 win at Siena on the final day of the season to wrap up the Scudetto. In order to reach this point in the Champions League, they had to outlast some of the toughest sides in the entire world. Beating Chelsea 3-1 on aggregate was one of the more impressive feats of the tournament. Milan then dismissed CSKA Moscow before setting up a pair of matches with Spanish Primera champions, Barcelona. The Spanish side was heavily favored after grabbing a win and a draw from Milan in the group stage of this tournament, but thanks to a 3-1 home victory, even a 1-0 defeat at Camp Nou couldn’t keep the Italians out of the Champions League Final. Keep an eye on M Alberto Diego Milito, as he has already scored four goals in this tournament. GK Julio Cesar has been fantastic, conceding just nine goals in 12 matches.

For Bayern Munich, a double has already been assured, as it has already won both the German Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal. Bayern Munich badly needed a 4-1 victory at Juventes on the final day of qualifying just to make it to the knockout round of the tournament, and danger was waiting around every single corner from then until the finale. Both Fiorentina and Manchester United’s home-and-home duels ended with Bayern Munich advancing by the skins of their teeth on away goals. However, the semifinal against Olympic Lyon ended with the Germans netting four goals in the two matches without conceding one in response. GK Jorge Butt was coming up against huge criticism for the way that he was performing in net before the series with the French monsters, as he had allowed 13 goals in ten matches. However, a pair of clean sheets was just what the doctor ordered. Someone is going to have to step up and produce goal scoring chances though for the Germans, as M Franck Ribery, who is expected to be one of the top offensive weapons on the French side in the World Cup next month, has been suspended for this match.

The winner of this match will become just the sixth team in European soccer history to win three cups in the same year. Barcelona pulled off the feat last year, but Manchester United was the club before that to make the accomplishment in 1999.

Inter Milan just has such a superior side at this point, and with Ribery out of the lineup, it is going to take an awesome effort from Bayern Munich to lift the cup. Instead, we’re going to back Internazionale.
