The college basketball season continues with numerous games on Saturday, February 4, and here you can take a look at the best Chippewas vs. Rockets betting pick and odds.
Toledo is searching for the seventh consecutive win when they host Central Michigan at Savage Arena. The Rockets are 15-point favorites on Bovada Sportsbook, while the total is set at 154 points. These MAC foes will meet for the first time this season.
Chippewas’ second-half offense didn’t work against Kent State
The Central Michigan Chippewas (8-14, 10-10-0 ATS) managed to snap a three-game losing skid with a narrow 70-69 home win over the Western Michigan Broncos but returned to losing ways with a defeat against the Kent State Golden Flashes. Although the Chippewas played well in the first half, they scored just 25 and allowed 40 in the second half as the Golden Flashes secured an 81-69 victory at home. The hosts were slightly better in steals and blocks, but they made the biggest difference from the free-throw line as they made 21 shots opposite Central Michigan’s nine.
Sophomore forward Markus Harding led the Chippewas with a career-high 22 points and four rebounds. Reggie Bass added 16 points, game-high seven assists, and game-high three steals, while Brian Taylor also had 16 points with a pair of blocks.
G Kevin Miller is out of action due to a lower-body issue, and team officials have yet to provide an exact return date.
Rockets edged Miami (OH) on the road
The Toledo Rockets (16-6, 11-9-0 ATS) are playing their best basketball of the campaign after getting the sixth win in a row. Following a couple of wins over Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green, the Rockets edged the Miami (OH) Redhawks 81-78 on the road. Toledo was very good from the field (51.6%) and remained calm late in the game to preserve the lead and not let the hosts make upset.
Junior guard RayJ Dennis led the Rockets with a career-high 29 points, game-high six assists, and two steals. JT Shumate contributed 19 points and six rebounds, while Setric Millner Jr. added 12 points, five boards, and game-high four thefts.
Trends:
Central Michigan:
- 1-10 SU in the last 11 games on the road
- 1-4 SU in the last five games
Toledo:
- 4-2 ATS in the last six games
- 8-3 ATS in the last 11 games played in February
- 9-1 SU in the last ten games at home
- 6-0 SU in the last six games
Central Michigan Chippewas vs. Toledo Rockets Pick
There is no way Central Michigan is going to outscore one of the best offenses in college basketball. Toledo has the 5th best offense in the country which averages 85.0 points per game opposite the Chippewas’ 67.3 ppg, and although Central Michigan has a stronger defense than the Rockets, that will not help the visitors on Saturday. Dennis, Shumate, and Millner Jr. are combining for nearly 52 points per game, and I am backing them to combine for 50+ against the Chippewas. Toledo won ten of the last 12 H2H duels and six of the previous seven H2Hs at home.
Pick: Take the Rockets at -14.5 (-110)
The Total
Toledo scored 80+ points in ten of the previous 11 games and scored 83+ in each of the last five at home, so I don’t think the Chippewas will be able to keep the hosts to below 80 points here. Central Michigan’s offense is not playing well recently, and even though the Rockets’ defense is quite leaky, I think the hosts can limit the Chippewas to around 70 points on Saturday. Still, that’s going to be enough for an Over. The total has gone Over in 14 of Toledo’s last 20 games, while the total went Over in seven of the Rockets’ previous ten games played on a Saturday.
Pick: Go Over 152.5 points (-120)
