NBA Betting: Boston Celtics at Los Angeles Lakers

Boston Celtics at Los Angeles Lakers

There was a time when a game between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers was occasion for pro basketball bettors and even casual sports fans to stop everything and put the TV on, if only for a little while. Unfortunately those days are long gone, and there is no sign they are coming back any time soon.

These teams will clash in a game that may bring some indifference to some, but may present an opportunity for VietBet customers looking for some value in NBA betting action. Tip-off is slated for 10:35 PM ET at the Staples Center, which has not been the friendliest place for the Lakers to be of late. In fact, they have lost eight straight games there, which is a record for this franchise since it moved from Minneapolis in 1960.

Obviously the Eastern Conference is largely inferior to the West, and if you needed an illustration of that, just consider that the Celtics (19-36) and Lakers (18-36) are just a half-game apart when considering their records, yet while the Lakers are actually tied for the worst record in the West (with Sacramento), the Celtics, as it turns out, are only 5.5 games behind the Charlotte Bobcats, who occupy the #8 spot in the East’s playoff queue. In fact, they are only 7.5 games out of the fifth spot in the conference.

Not that they are likely to go on a surge, but the Celtics at least have a remote possibility of seeing action in the post-season, although admittedly it would require a level of play they haven’t shown thus far. General manager Danny Ainge seems more content to build for the future, and apparently he wants Rajon Rondo to be part of that future. VietBet customers saw the trade deadline come and go and there was no deal made for the All-Star point guard.

By the way, NBA bettors will remember that Rondo came back from his ACL injury against the Lakers on January 17, and had an opportunity to tie the game with a three-pointer, but missed, enabling Los Angeles to come away with a road victory. In that game the Lakers shot 50% from the field, which is something that has not been all that unusual for them; in fact, they have shot at least 48% in four of their last six games. But they have been out-rebounded by tremendous margins in some games, and let’s face it – they have been very thin because of injuries.

The 134-108 loss they suffered at the hands of the Houston Rockets on Wednesday was something of a humiliation, but at least they got some good news with the return of Jodie Meeks and Jordan Farmar, who should both add some scoring punch. Pau Gasol, who may have been shopped but was not traded, is expected to play. Steve Nash, who is breaking down at age 40, may or may not be available. One of the injured players who may not be seen for the rest of the season is Kobe Bryant, who may decide to shut himself down. VietBet patrons noticed through Twitter that he was not at all happy that the team traded Steve Blake his friend and, in his words, “a psycho competitor.” It is quite possible that he may rest himself and see what moves GM Mitch Kupchak makes in the off-season to rebuild this team, which has very few players signed for next year.
The Celtics have not been on a shooting tear, hitting less than 40% of their shots in five of their last ten games. They have played 12 of their last 17 games under the total as it has been posted in the pro basketball betting odds at VietBet. For the season they have played 34 “unders” in 55 games. This is another team that is in transition, although unlike the Lakers, it hasn’t been connected to a spate of injuries. Rondo has indicated his desire to stick around, and on Wednesday night against Phoenix he had one of his better games since coming back from his injury, scoring 18 points with ten assists and seven rebounds in the 100-94 loss. However, his inconsistency shooting the ball continued, as he made just seven of his 22 attempts.
