Is Sports Betting Legal in Nevada?
Surprise! Nevada already has legalized sports wagering. But, you knew that. Maybe you clicked on this to be ironic. Nevada was a special exemption when PASPA was signed into law back 1992.
Gambling has been legal in Nevada since 1931, but the first sports book didn’t open until 1975. In 1976, Stardust opened its sports book and the industry was forever changed. Some believed that Nevada would be upset that sports betting would lose its exclusivity with the strike down of PASPA, but that hasn’t been the case for operators or prominent figures in the sports betting community.
While legal sports betting around the nation will hurt Nevada a little bit from a revenue standpoint, the penny slots and the blackjack and baccarat tables will still be major sources of revenue, so it won’t really do too much to the bottom line.
It is also going to take a while for most states to get everything in order and Las Vegas will still be an extremely popular destination for those looking for a break from the real world.
