The Atlantic 10 betting action goes on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 for this college basketball battle at the Stuart C. Siegel Center, so we bring you the best Wildcats vs. Rams betting pick along with the latest odds update on Bookmaker Sportsbook

VCU defeated Davidson the last time these teams met, winning 64-52 back in March of last year. These teams have split the last 10 meetings with Davidson winning four of the last six. No injuries are reported for the Wildcats while the Rams will be without Jarren McAllister and Jamir Watkins.

Davidson Looks to Extend Winning Streak

The Davidson Wildcats (14-2) enter on a hot streak, winners of 13 straight games after defeating Richmond last Friday, 87-84. Davidson is 1-2 ATS in their last three, but 7-2 in their last nine. They have won five straight games on the road.

Davidson took an eight-point lead into the half before holding on against Richmond. It was an impressive shooting performance that led the way, as the team shot 53.6% from the field, including 13-27 from three-point range. This Wildcats team is dangerous from all over the court, sixth in field-goal percentage (50.1%), second in three-point shooting (41.9%), and 34th in free-throw percentage (76.7%).

This is a well-rounded Davidson team, with four players averaging double-digits. Hyunjung Lee is the leading scorer at 17.5 points per game and is adding 6.6 boards per contest. He is shooting 51.3% from the field, as four of the five leading scorers are averaging better than 50% from the floor.

VCU Look to Rebuild Momentum

The VCU Rams (10-5) saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end when they lost to St. Bonaventure last Friday. The Rams are 8-2 ATS in their last 10. VCU has won four straight games at home.

The Rams struggled to hit shots against St. Bonaventure, hitting 38.5% from the field, including 7-20 from three-point range. This is not a very good shooting team, 242nd in field-goal percentage (43.1%) and 247th in three-point shooting (32.3%). They live by a defensive game, 11th overall at 58.1 points allowed per game.

The Rams did hold St. Bonaventure to just 43.1% shooting, but the Bonnies got to the line 27 times, hitting 23 free throws to earn the victory. This is an aggressive Rams team (28th in steals, 15th in blocks) that relies on quickness and must be careful to avoid foul trouble.

Trends:

Davidson:

  • 7-0 ATS in their last seven games on the road.
  • 10-2 ATS in last 12 games.

VCU:

  • None

Pick: Davidson Wildcats at +2.5 (-110)

Surprisingly, VCU enters this contest as the favorite. While they are an exceptional defensive team, they clearly do not have the skill set to be able to keep up with Davidson. This is one of those classic offense versus defense kinds of contests, but you have to like the overall efficiency of how the Wildcats play. They can hit from anywhere on the court, and that should be a challenge against a Rams team that proved they can find ways to give games away.

The Total: Go Over 132.0 (-110)

Because of the defensive style that VCU plays, the tendency is to lean toward the under in a contest like this. However, they have gone under 132 in just one of their last three games, the loss to St. Bonaventure where they simply could not score and where the Bonnies had to rely on free-throw to win. They should have more success against a Davidson team giving up nearly 67 points per game, but do not expect much more than that.

However, no issue should arise for the Wildcats to score in the 70s here. During the 13-game winning streak the least amount of points that they have scored is 70, and that came more than six weeks ago. This game will be a lot closer to 140 as a total.
