The 2022 MLB season goes on Wednesday, June 29, with 15 games on the schedule, including the AL East showdown from Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, so here’s the best Red Sox vs. Blue Jays betting pick.

The Sawx and Jays will close down a three-game set in Canada with Game 10 of their 19-game regular-season series. Toronto has won six of its first eight contests against Boston in 2022, while the middle game of this series is not included in the analysis. The Blue Jays are listed as -141 moneyline favorites for Wednesday’s clash, according to BetOnline Sportsbook

The Red Sox stopped their seven-game win streak on Monday

The Boston Red Sox suffered a 7-2 defeat at Rogers Centre this past Monday. The Sawx fell to 42-32 on the season, putting an end to their seven-game winning streak. Boston has won seven straight series, including a couple of last week’s sweeps over the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians.

Over the last 15 days of action, the Red Sox have posted the highest OPS in the majors (.816). They’ve scored 69 runs in their previous 13 outings (10-3 record) while compiling a 3.49 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and .251 opposing batting average.

Nick Pivetta will toe the slab Tuesday in Canada. The 29-year-old righty is 8-5 with a solid 3.25 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 86/29 K/BB ratio in 15 starts (88.2 innings) this season. Pivetta has emerged victorious in three straight starts, but he’s 0-1 with an awful 7.27 ERA and 5.09 FIP in a couple of meetings with the Blue Jays in 2022.

The Blue Jays hope to stay on the winning path

The Toronto Blue Jays haven’t been at their best in the last couple of weeks. They’ve gone 5-8 in 13 games during that span while posting the highest ERA in the majors (6.12). On the other side of the ball, the Jays have scored 72 runs on a .247/.309/.457 triple-slash.

Toronto stopped its two-game slide with Monday’s victory over the Red Sox. The Blue Jays improved their record to 41-32 for the season and will continue to chase the Yankees alongside Boston and Tampa Bay.

Alek Manoah will toe the rubber Tuesday and face the Sawx for the second time this season. He dominated Boston at Rogers Centre on April 28, firing seven shutout innings and striking out seven. Manoah is 9-2 with a sparkling 2.05 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 14 starts (87.2 innings) this season, and the 24-year-old righty has gone 4-1 with a 2.56 ERA through his previous five appearances in June.

Trends:

Boston:

  • 1-6 in the last seven games against Toronto

Toronto:

  • 5-1 in the last six home games against Boston
  • 6-1 in Alek Manoah’s last seven starts

Boston Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays Pick

Alek Manoah has been the Jays’ best pitcher so far this season, and I’m expecting another strong outing when the righty takes on the dangerous Red Sox lineup, which has only six hits in 45 at-bats against Manoah.

On the other side, Nick Pivetta is having a nice season, but he was already beaten by the Jays twice in April. The current Toronto lineup has 33 hits, six home runs, and a strong .805 OPS across 114 at-bats versus Pivetta. Hereof, I’m going with the Blue Jays to win.

Pick: Take Toronto Blue Jays at -141

The Total:

I lean toward the over on the totals in this Red Sox vs. Blue Jays matchup because neither bullpen has impressed in the last ten days. The Red Sox have compiled a 3.81 ERA, 3.91 FIP, and .288 BABIP across 28.1 innings of work, while the Jays have amassed a 4.86 ERA, 3.83 FIP, and .366 BABIP through 37 frames of work.

As I’ve mentioned above, both teams possess plenty of offensive weapons. If one of the relievers starts to struggle, we’ll see more than eight runs on the scoreboard.

Pick: Go over 8.5 runs at -110
