Big 12 Football-Week 9 Handicapping Guide

Kansas State remained at the top of the Big 12 and moved to No.3 in the latest BCS rankings after blasting West Virginia, which plummeted to No.19. Oklahoma is the next highest-ranked team in the conference at No.8 followed by Texas Tech at No.14. Texas is the only other ranked Big 12 team at No.23 after both TCU and Iowa State fell out of the Top 25 with losses.
The following is a look at a couple of the top matchups this week in the Big 12 along with the opening spreads as provided by UcaBet.
No.23 Texas Longhorns (-21) vs. Kansas Jayhawks -Saturday, Oct.27, 12 p.m.
Texas snapped a two-game losing streak with a 56-50 victory over Baylor this past Saturday as an 8.5-point home favorite. The Longhorns are now 5-2 straight-up but 3-4 against the spread. The total has gone OVER in their last five games. Kansas has been simply awful this season with one SU win in seven games and a 2-4-1 record ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in four of its last six games.
The Longhorns come into this matchup with a nine-game winning streak SU over Kansas and an 8-1 record ATS. Last season, Texas hammered the Jayhawks 43-0 as a 28-point home favorite after beating them 51-20 in 2009 as a 28.5-point favorite at home. The total has stayed UNDER in three of the last five meetings.
No.14 Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. No.3 Kansas State Wildcats (-7.5) -Saturday, Oct.27, 3:30 p.m.
Texas Tech survived a wild 56-53 overtime shootout against TCU this past Saturday as a 2.5-point road underdog to move to 6-1 both SU and ATS. The total has now gone OVER in two of its last three games. Kansas State’s run to the top of the BCS standings at 7-0 SU (5-1-1 ATS) includes victories over Oklahoma, Iowa State and West Virginia on the road. The total has stayed UNDER in three of its last four games.
The Wildcats snapped a five-game losing streak both SU and ATS to the Red Raiders last season with a 41-34 victory as 3.5-point underdogs on the road. The total has gone OVER in the last four meetings. Texas Tech is 4-1 ATS in its last five road games with the total going OVER in seven of its last nine games on the road. Kansas State is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games at home and the total has gone OVER in the last six games played there.
No.5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. No.8 Oklahoma Sooners (-10) -Saturday, Oct.27, 8 p.m.
Notre Dame puts its seven-game winning streak on the line this Saturday night, but it is just 4-3 ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in its last six games since going OVER in an opening-day romp over Navy. Oklahoma has racked-up a combined 156 points in the last three games since its shocking 24-19 loss to Kansas State as a 15.5-point home favorite. The Sooners are 5-1 SU (4-2 ATS) overall and the total has gone OVER in their last three games.
This will be the first meeting between these two teams since 1999 when Notre Dame won 34-30 as a six-point home favorite. The Irish are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and the total has stayed UNDER in five of their last seven road games. The Sooners are 4-1 ATS in their last five games at home and the total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five non-conference games.
