The English Premier League continues this weekend following the FA Cup tilts, so take a look at our tips and predictions for the Tottenham Hotspur vs. Everton match.
Spurs had a successful last week after they beat AFC Wimbledon 3-0 in the FA Cup to progress to the next round, while the Toffees suffered a late 2-1 defeat to the city rivals Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby, and now they can fully focus on the Premier League. Let’s remind, Everton was eliminated from the Europa League as well, so Sam Allardyce’s side can turn to the championship and try to secure a top ten finish.
Everton is currently in the 9th position with 27 points, 14 behind Tottenham, but they didn’t taste a victory in the previous five matches, losing the last three, and although Allardyce managed to stabilize the situation at Goodison Park since his arrival, it seems that the Toffees are again in a bad form. On the other hand, Spurs are looking for a double against Everton as they already beat them 3-0 in Liverpool and are sitting in the 5th place with 41 points, three behind Liverpool and Champions League spot. Mauricio Pochettino’s side is without a loss in the last five games and they have a good chance to close the gap between them and the Reds as Liverpool is facing the unbeaten Manchester City on Sunday.
Betting Odds on the Total at BetDSI Sportsbook
Over 2.5 goals @ -143
Under 2.5 goals @ +110
Why bet on the Under?
Tottenham conceded only nine goals in 11 games at Wembley this season, and their sturdy defense is one of the reasons why this tilt could end in the under. Another reason could be Everton’s inefficiency away from Goodison Park as they scored just eight goals in 11 matches on the road and they don’t have a player who regularly bags goals, unlike Spurs who have one of the best strikers in Europe at the moment – Harry Kane.
Why bet on the Over?
Kane is usually quite in the mood when facing Everton as he scored a brace in the reverse fixture back in September and he scored eight goals in the past five outings, so it would be rather surprising if the England international fails to find the net on this one. I am convinced he will score at least once, while Tottenham’s home form of late is another solid reason for playing over in this matchup as they recorded 16 goals in the previous five at Wembley. When it comes to the visitors’ chances of scoring, the Toffees brought the Turkish international CenkTosun to boost the attack and the former Besiktas striker will likely make his debut for the Merseysiders. The 27-year-old forward already bagged 14 goals in 24 appearances for the Turkish champions in this campaign and he will undoubtedly improve Allardyce’s team, and it will be interesting to see him in tandem with Wayne Rooney, who is currently the side’s top goal scorer.
Tottenham Hotspur vs. Everton Betting Pick
Everton is without a victory over Spurs since the late comeback in December 2012, but they didn’t record three points in H2H encounters in the past ten. Additionally, the Toffees’ last win at Tottenham’s ground (previously White Hart Lane) came in November 2008, so securing a win here is highly unlikely. Pochettino’s men are averaging over two goals per contest in the last five matches at home, and considering troublesome Everton’s defense I would be surprised if they don’t score minimum a couple of goals on Saturday. Last time these teams met, Tottenham won 3-0, while the previous clash in London ended 3-2 for Spurs.
Although they are not efficient on the road, the Toffees did score in seven out of the last eight road games, and scoring one here would definitely help the players who opt for the over. Allardyce’s side allowed exactly two goals in each of the previous three matches and conceding less than that on this one is impossible when Tottenham’s and Kane’s form is taken into consideration. Last time I bet over on Tottenham they didn’t have luck in front of the goal against West Ham as the tilt finished 1-1, but I am sure Spurs will not have problems with Everton, so I am backing goals here.
MY PICK: Over 2.5 goals (-143)
