Betting Tips: NFL Consensus Week 1

Last Updated: 2017-03-06

Finally, football is here. The football betting fanatic is in paradise as football will now grace our television on a regular basis. The diehard football bettor will get a chance to bet on both college football and pro football each and every week. In order to make a profit the football handicapper will have to look at every stat, trend and handicapping tool that they can find to make money.

One very good trend that is often overlooked and should be used on a regular basis is the NFL consensus. This shows exactly where the public is betting on any given football Sunday. This is important because the football betting public is generally wrong. So when one team is getting the majority of the betting action, the theory would be to go against the team that the public is on and more times than not you are going to win. Like many other handicapping tools and techniques it should never be used as a standalone and it should never be used as 100 percent accurate tool for every and any game, if this were the case, no one would ever have to do any work and everyone would win. We all know that just does not happen.

Now let’s take a look at the week one consensus for the upcoming NFL season. The Green Bay Packers are leading the way for betting in the first week of the NFL. They have the most bets as they head to the field in week one of the regular season. As of right now over 70% of the wagers are coming in on the Packers to beat the Chicago Bears. While the Bears had a very difficult season last year, they have a new coaching staff and a new approach to playing football.  The Bears are at home but are still not getting any love, but that seems to be the norm for week one.

Seven of the 13 teams that are playing at home in week one are not getting the majority of the bets. The Bears are the home team that is getting the least amount of love from the public bettors and when it comes to road teams it is the Baltimore Ravens who are being overlooked.

The Ravens head to the Mile High City to take on Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. The Broncos are attracting 66% of the betting action, which is the most for any home team in the NFL this week. The Broncos are implementing a new offense and they are still one of the favored teams to win it all this season. This is a team that has all of the pieces to win a Super Bowl so it comes as no surprise that they are one of the most popular teams in the NFL.

When it comes to totals the most bets for the week is coming in on the over in the game featuring the Detroit Lions and the San Diego Chargers. Over 60% is taking the over 46 in this game.

The sports betting consensus is an underrated handicapping tool and if you have never used it before, now is the time to check it out!
