The Wizards are one of the worst teams in the league this year, but at least they have proven that they have a bit of a pulse over the last few weeks. They were able to beat the Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors last week. Sure, they were wins against the Pistons and Raptors, but wins are wins when you’re as bad as the Wiz are. The problem that Washington has is that it just can’t beat any of the top teams in the league. The team only has one win all season long, a shocking upset of the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Verizon Center, against a team that has won more than nine games on the season. Andray Blatche is still out of the fold with a calf injury for at least another 10-14 days, and that has left a huge hole in the middle of this lineup. John Wall, the franchise’s centerpiece, isn’t shooting the ball well, and it is a problem that the rest of the club is having as well. Wall is coming off of a game in which he had 15 assists against the Pistons though, so at least he is fulfilling his duties as a distributor of a point guard.

BetOnline.comPortland has prided itself this year in its ability to hold home court advantage, but it took a major step backwards last week with an OT loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder and a bit of a surprising seven point defeat at the hands of the upstart Houston Rockets. A win at the New Orleans Hornets did help out morale a bit, but in the end, the team has just one victory against a team that is going to even remotely contend for a playoff spot (a 117-97 win over the Denver Nuggets) in the last three weeks. What we have seen with the Trail Blazers of late are a lot of points. The team has plenty of talent offensively, especially when Raymond Felton is running the point, and the end result has seen they scoring a whopping 105.1 points per game here at the Rose Garden. That’s a tremendous difference from the 87.1 points per game that the Wizards are averaging on the road.

The Final Word: The oddsmakers aren’t fools though, and they are going to make the Wizards double digit underdogs in this game. We just don’t know if all of that is justified. Sure, Washington hasn’t beaten a team like this one all year long, no less on the road, 3,000 miles away from home. However, the Wizards could be dangerous in spots like this one for covers with the grit that they have been playing with, and they’ll get the job done on Tuesday and pick up a cover, while Portland gets back on track with another SU victory at the Rose Garden.
