Basketball Odds: Miami Heat @ Atlanta Hawks Pick
- Updated: February 11, 2012
Two of the top teams in the Southeast Division meet in the Peach State in what should be an intense NBA betting battle. The Atlanta Hawks are going to want to prove that they belong in the discussion as one of the top teams in the league when they spend their Sunday trying to cool off the Miami Heat.
There isn’t a whole heck of a lot to say about the Heat at this point. They are having a fantastic season in spite of the fact that Dwyane Wade has missed his share of games with various injuries. LeBron James is still playing like he is the league’s MVP, and the argument could be made that he is playing the best ball of his entire career right now on both sides of the court. There were plenty of flashes of just pure brilliance against the Washington Wizards on Friday night in a game that was never really all that close, and though we know that the Wizards aren’t exactly the cream of the crop in the Eastern Conference, play like that is going to be good enough to top virtually any team in the league. What makes the Heat so scary is the fact that they are just so darn talented on both sides of the court. Chris Bosh is playing solid defense right now on the inside, while both Wade and James are finding ways to lock down their men as well.
The Hawks have always been that team to win some games like this one over the course of the season, but they were never really able to win the big series in the playoffs to make a difference. Losing Kirk Hinrich for a good chunk of the beginning of the season was supposed to hurt, especially after the team lost Jamal Crawford via free agency in the offseason to the Portland Trail Blazers, but it was able to prevail against some tough teams. On top of that, Al Horford has been hurt for the mass majority of the season, and he isn’t going to be coming back until at least the playoffs, if he can even get back in the fold by that point. There are definitely some holes on this roster, but for Atlanta, it always seems to be a matter of someone stepping up when it is needed the most. The Hawks are coming off of a big time OT win over the Orlando Magic on Friday, the same Magic team that topped the Heat the night before at the Amway Center, and that has to give them the utmost confidence coming into this clash against the team that many think is the best in the league.
The Final Word: Atlanta has already logged one win this year in South Beach, and it forced the Heat into overtime in the first meeting of the year here at Phillips Arena. In the return trip, we expect to see the Heat favored once again, but we don’t think that they are going to make it stand up. Take the Hawks at home to make a huge statement on Sunday afternoon.
