Bang the Book College Hoops Risers and Fallers

Basketball Rankings

The college basketball season is long and winding and it all leads up to the big NCAA Tournament where one team will be crowned the national champion. Leading up to March Madness several teams will see their stock, and in most cases their ranking, rise and fall due to recent events. Here are this week’s risers and fallers.

Biggest Riser: Illinois Fighting Illini

Illinois is a very good team but they have spent most of the season overshadowed by other top ranked teams in the conference. The Big Ten has three teams in the Top Ten of the college basketball rankings to include Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio State. Thursday night Illinois served notice to the country that they are also a contender as they beat Indiana. In overcoming a double-digit halftime deficit, the Fighting Illini deserves to be called the biggest riser of the week.

Notable Riser: Oklahoma State Cowboys

The Cowboy stunned the Kansas Jayhawks on the road and that win alone will get this team in the notable riser category. A big game against Texas on deck could be another chance to be noticed.

Biggest Faller Kansas Jayhawks

How bad are the Kansas Jayhawks playing? Head coach Bill Self proclaimed that this is the worst team he has seen for Kansas since James Naismith was the coach. Wow. The Jayhawks loss at home to Oklahoma State was tough enough for this team to swallow, but when they followed it up with a loss at TCU, it was downright embarrassing. Kansas is still one of the best teams in the country, but they have some things to work on and for that reason, they are our biggest faller of the week.

Notable Faller Florida Gators

The Gators were crushing teams by a wide margin until they ran into a buzz saw. The Gators were demolished by the Arkansas Razorbacks and it brought them back down to earth as a notable faller for this week.
