Bang the Book College Basketball Risers and Fallers
- Updated: February 22, 2013
All of the teams in the college basketball hope that now is the time they catch a hot streak. With the conference tournaments right around the corner leading up to the NCAA Tournament, now is the time to build momentum to make a championship run. This is a look at this week’s risers and fallers.
Biggest Riser: Indiana Hoosiers
It is difficult to say a team that is ranked No. 1 in the college basketball rankings is a riser, but the Indiana Hoosiers made a statement this week. By defeating the Michigan State Spartans they have basically locked down the Big Ten title and a No. 1 see in the NCAA Tournament. With a tournament path that is going to go through Indianapolis, the Hoosiers are the biggest riser of the week.
Notable Riser: St. Louis Billikens
Not many people outside of St. Louis follow this basketball team, but they should. This team has sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Ten and is winning by playing tough defense. With a Friday night showdown against the No. 15 Butler Bulldogs, this team is about to get on the map as a contender.
Biggest Faller: Oregon Ducks
The Pac-12 has come a long way in the college basketball world and will have a few teams that could be a big surprise come tournament time. One of those teams could have been the Oregon Ducks. After an unforgivable home loss to the Cal Bears the Ducks are in setback mode. They could fall out of the Top 25 and they lost sole possession of first place. Now tied with Arizona, the Ducks are the biggest faller of the week.
Notable Faller: Florida Gators
The Gators lost to the Missouri Tigers which is nothing to be ashamed of considering the Tigers have yet to lose at home this season. However it does put the Gators title chances in doubt as they seem to rely very heavily on the three-ball.
