The 2022 MLB season goes on Wednesday, May 25, when Baltimore and New York close down their three-game AL East series at Yankee Stadium, so we bring you the best Orioles vs. Yankees betting pick and odds.

The Yankees are listed as firm -215 home favorites on BetOnline Sportsbook. The Orioles are +196 moneyline dogs, and the totals sit at 8.5 runs. Baltimore won the opener 6-4 as a +260 underdog with a total of 7.5 runs, while Tuesday night’s middle contest is excluded from this preview.

The O’s stunned the Yanks on the back of their offense

Jordan Lyles fanned eight across 6.2 innings of a three-run ball last Monday, but the Baltimore Orioles have to thank their offense for a terrific performance against one of the top aces in the majors. The O’s tortured Gerrit Cole for five earned runs on seven hits and fully deserved to improve to 18-25 on the season.

It was the second win in a row for the Orioles and fourth in their previous five outings. During that five-game span, Baltimore has outlasted Tampa Bay twice in extra innings, 8-6 and 7-6, and defeated the Yanks 9-6 in a closing contest of a four-game series at home.

Tyler Wells will toe the slab Wednesday and meet the Yankees for the third time in 2022. In his previous two dates with the Yanks, Wells has allowed two earned runs on six hits and a pair of walks through nine frames of work, getting a no-decision on both occasions. The 27-year-old is now 1-3 with a 4.41 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 23/6 K/BB ratio in eight starts (32.2 innings) this season.

The Yankees are slowing down a bit

Gerrit Cole threw eight innings in Monday’s loss to the Orioles. He whiffed 11 but still took his first loss of the season after yielding five earned runs. At least, Cole ate innings to save the Yankees’ bullpen for Wednesday’s closer.

New York played the White Sox in a doubleheader last Sunday, so the Yankees will have to opt for a bullpen day in this one. They were 29-13 on Tuesday, looking to avoid their fourth consecutive defeat, as the Yanks lost both games to the Chi Sox on Sunday.

JP Sears is projected to start the closing contest of this series, and the 26-year-old lefty has only a couple of major-league innings under his belt. He took a win in a 5-2 road victory over Baltimore on April 16, allowing a pair of hits and a walk while getting three outs in relief off Jameson Taillon.

Trends:

Baltimore:

  • 2-6 in the last eight games against the Yankees

NY Yankees:

  • 18-5 in the last 23 home games against Baltimore

Baltimore Orioles vs. New York Yankees Pick

The current Yankees have only eight hits in 42 at-bats against Tyler Wells, but the Orioles’ righty won’t last for too long. He’s yet to throw more than 79 pitches in a game. Also, Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge have combined to hit 5-for-15 with one home run against Wells, so the Yankees should score a few runs early.

The Yankees’ bullpen hasn’t impressed over the last seven days, posting a 7.36 ERA and 3.54 FIP. On the other side, the Orioles’ bullpen has recorded a shiny 1.73 ERA in that stretch, but its 3.68 FIP suggests some regression in future games. Baltimore’s relievers are tallying only 8.07 strikeouts per nine frames.

Pick: Take New York Yankees at -215

The Total:

Baltimore owns the fourth-lowest scoring offense in the majors, averaging 3.56 runs per game. But over their previous six games, the Orioles have scored 33 runs, while the Yankees, who average 4.74 runs per game, have accounted for only 21 runs over their previous six contests.

I lean the over, expecting the Yankees’ offense to get back on the right track. On the other side, the Orioles should help with a few runs, as they take on the struggling Yankees bullpen.

Pick: Go over 8.5 runs at -110
