The MLB betting action continues Tuesday, June 28, 2022, with the NL East showdown at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, so we have prepared the best Braves vs. Phillies betting pick along with the latest odds update on MyBookie Sportsbook

After splitting a four-game set at Truist Park in Atlanta in May, the Braves and Phillies start a three-game series in Philadelphia. The hosts are small -116 moneyline favorites for Tuesday’s clash, while the totals are listed at 8.0 runs.

The Braves look to bounce back from a tough loss to the Dodgers

The Atlanta Braves wrapped up their seven-game homestand, suffering a 5-3 11-inning defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers. They lost a three-game set versus the Blue Crew following a victory in a four-game series against the San Francisco Giants.

The 42-32 Braves are sitting at the second spot in the NL East, five games behind the New York Mets. Atlanta is tallying 4.72 runs per game (8th in the majors) on a .247/.313/.439 slash line (.242/.312/.393 league average) while yielding 4.12 runs in a return (12th).

Charlie Morton will toe the rubber Tuesday and meet the Phillies for the second time this season. He tossed 4.1 frames in a no-decision against Philadelphia on May 25, allowing four earned runs on nine hits. Morton is 4-3 with a disappointing 4.84 ERA in 14 starts (74.1 innings) this season, though the veteran righty has surrendered only a couple of runs in his last two outings and 14 innings of work.

The Phillies start a nine-game homestand

The Philadelphia Phillies closed down their 11-game road trip in style, outlasting the San Diego Padres 8-5 this past Sunday. They clinched a four-game set at Petco Park in San Diego, improving to 39-35 on the season. The Phillies were third in the NL East, three games off the Braves.

Philadelphia is scoring 4.76 runs per game (6th in the MLB) on a .247/.316/.413 triple-slash. The Phillies are yielding 4.28 runs in a return (17th), but their pitching staff has compiled a solid 3.63 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and .230 opposing batting average in the last couple of weeks.

Zack Wheeler will toe the slab Tuesday and face the Braves for the second time in 2022. Back on May 23, Wheeler tossed 6.2 frames of a two-run ball and struck out ten in a 7-3 victory at Truist Park in Atlanta. The 32-year-old righty is 6-4 with a firm 2.77 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 13 starts (74.2 frames) this season.

Trends:

Atlanta:

  • 4-10 in the last 14 road games against Philadelphia

Philadelphia:

  • 14-6 in the last 20 games overall
  • 8-2 in the last ten games at home
  • 6-2 in Zack Wheeler’s last eight starts

Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies Pick

Zack Wheeler took a loss last time out, but he’s done a great job for the Phillies in the last two months. Wheels has allowed only ten runs (six earned) across his previous five appearances and 29.1 frames of work. The current Braves are hitting just .193/.215/.289 in 181 at-bats against Wheeler, so I’m backing the Phillies to win.

On the other side, the current Phillies lineup has a .263 batting average and .764 OPS in 114 at-bats versus Charlie Morton. Both bullpens have pitched well of late, so Zack Wheeler should make the difference on the mound.

Pick: Take Philadelphia Phillies at -116

The Total:

In the last ten days of action, the Braves’ bullpen has amassed a 4.40 ERA, 3.19 FIP, and 12.6 K/9, while the Phillies’ relievers have compiled a 3.12 ERA, 3.33 FIP, and 8.8 K/9. If Charlie Morton continues to improve and Zack Wheeler put on another strong performance, we should see a low-scoring affair.

On the other hand, these two teams know each other very well, so relievers could start allowing runs left and right in this matchup. Both clubs have plenty of dangerous bats which is another reason why I don’t feel comfortable with the totals.

Pick: Go under 8.0 runs at -115
