The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to take advantage of their home field on Saturday night, as they host the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 2 of the National League Division Series on TBS. The Dodgers had the best home record in the league this season at 57-24. The Dodgers were on a tear for most of the 2017 Major League Baseball season and on pace to post the greatest record in the history of the modern game. But the Dodgers simply ran out of gas towards the end of the season and did not even match the pace of the 1975 Cincinnati Reds who posted a winning percentage of .667 en route to a World Series title. Let’s look at Game 2 on Saturday night and MLB picks.
The Arizona Diamondbacks visit the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, October 7, in Game 2 of the NLDS, with a start time just after 9 pm Eastern on TBS.
Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers
The Dodgers were a strong home team this year with a record at venerable Dodger Stadium of 57-24. Los Angeles posted a home mark of 40-38-3 over the total at Dodger Stadium this year. The Diamondbacks had an effective road record of 41-40 and trended strongly under the total on the road with just 31 out of their 81 road games going over the total.
Probable Pitching Matchups
The Dodgers will send Rich Hill to the mound as their starting pitcher for game two while the Diamondbacks were undecided as their starter, although they are hoping it will be Robbie Ray. Hill will make the fifth postseason start of his career and was at his best at Dodger Stadium this year with a strong 2.77 earned run average compared to his road ERA of 4.06. Hill is in great form with a record of 3-0 and a 1.00 ERA in his last three starts with a strong 26 strikeouts in that three game span. Hill was an overall 12-8 for the 2017 season with a 3.32 ERA.
Ray threw 34 pitches in relief in Wednesday’s Wild Card game, but Arizona is hoping he will be ready for this start on just two days rest. Ray started five times against the Dodgers this season and was 3-0 against them with a 2.27 ERA.
Arizona has been struggling on the road as of late with just two wins in their last seven road games. The D-Backs went under over the total in just five out of their last 17 away games. The Dodgers were sluggish at home down the stretch with just five wins in their last 15 games at Dodger Stadium. The money losses in that span were really big for gamblers as the Dodgers are a perpetually large lay on the baseball betting board. The Dodgers went under the total in just nine out of their last 20 home games.
Arizona has won five out of their last seven games at Dodger Stadium with six out of the last eight meetings between the D-Backs and Dodgers at Dodger Stadium going under the total.
It has been a great run for the Diamondbacks but the NLCS is where the rubber meets the road. The superior Dodger pitching will be the difference in this matchup and I also like the under in this one.
