The college football season continues with Week 10 and offers plenty of interesting conference matchups including this one on Thursday, November 3, so make sure you get the best Mountaineers vs. Chanticleers betting pick and odds.
Appalachian State is looking for the third straight win when they visit Coastal Carolina at Brooks Stadium. The Mountaineers are slight -2.5 favorites on BookMaker Sportsbook, while the total is set at 63.5 points. These Sun Belt foes have met once in 2021, and the Mountaineers won 30-27 in Boone, NC.
Mountaineers allowed only three points in a win over Robert Morris
The Appalachian State Mountaineers (5-3-0, 3-5-0 ATS) returned home from a road loss to Texas State and got a pair of wins over the Georgia State Panthers and Robert Morris Colonials. The recent W against the Colonials was a massive one, but the Mountaineers still failed to cover a huge 50-point spread as they won 42-3. Appalachian State was dominant in total yards (512-148) and first downs (29-7).
Chase Brice completed 17 of 23 passes for 185 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Dashaun Davis, who registered a game-high 57 yards on three catches, scored one of Brice’s passing TDs, while Tyler Page, Miller Gibbs, and Dalton Stroman also found the end zone. Nate Noel was the best runner on the field with 88 rushing yards on five carries, but Anderson Castle and Kanye Roberts were the ones to score touchdowns. On defense, Jalen McLeod led the team with six tackles.
Chanticleers bounced back with a win over Marshall
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (7-1-0, 3-4-1 ATS) suffered their first loss of the season against the Old Dominion Monarch at home, allowing a season-high 49 points in the process. However, they responded with a surprising 24-13 victory over the Marshall Thundering Herd on the road and climbed up to the top of the Sun Belt. Although Coastal Carolina was inferior in total yards (271-407), they forced a couple of turnovers and committed none on the other end as their defense led them to a W.
Grayson McCall completed 13 of 24 passes for 121 yards and a touchdown, while he also scored a rushing TD. Bryce Carpenter scored the other rushing touchdown, while Jacob Jenkins was on the receiving end of McCall’s TD pass. The Chanticleers were excellent defensively, registering four sacks opposite Marshall’s two. Shane Bruce was rock-solid with team-high 11 tackles.
- 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall
- 1-5 ATS in the last six conference games
- 1-4 ATS in the last five vs. a team with a winning record
- 13-3-1 ATS in the last 17 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game
- 6-2 ATS in the last eight games after accumulating less than 275 total yards in their previous game
Appalachian State Mountaineers vs. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Pick
Appalachian State did play well in the last two games, but they faced a lot weaker opponents and it’s not going to be that easy against the Chanticleers on Thursday. Coastal Carolina played a lot of tight games this season and managed to come away victorious in each of them. The Chanticleers have the right recipe on how to win one-possession games, and I expect this one to be another close affair. App State is a bit better in both offense and defense when it comes to points scored/allowed on average, but I am going with the Chanticleers to get the edge here because of a home-field advantage.
Pick: Take the Chanticleers at +3.5 (-130)
The Mountaineers scored 42 points in each of their previous two games, but that’s not going to happen here. The Chanticleers allowed more than 30 points just once this season, and I am backing the hosts to keep App State to 20-25 on Thursday. Under is 27-8-1 in the Mountaineers’ last 36 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game; Under is 5-2 in the Chanticleers’ previous seven conference games, while Under is 4-1 in Coastal Carolina’s last five games following an ATS win.
Pick: Go Under 63.5 points (-110)
