Came up short with the Philadelphia Soul last week, on both the side and the total, as Philadelphia won 54-49, but was a bit short in covering the spread and also on the total, as just one offensive touchdown was scored in the third quarter. It will still be a few more weeks before there’s much to work with from a statistical standpoint, as basically most of last year’s numbers are meaningless due to all the personnel changes. AFL lines change fast and furious due to the minimal betting on the games.
Albany at Baltimore: The Brigade had their chances last week in Philadelphia, but squandered a few chances and ended uo losing in the final seconds, so this could be a bit of a letdown game, as a rematch with the Soul is on tap. Baltimore defeated Washington 61-56 in the opening week of the season before last week’s loss and now face an Albany team that was off last week, as Washington postponed its game due to the Capitals and Wizards in the playoffs. The Brigade is favored by 13.5 and the total here is 99.5. Albany lost 56-35 to the Soul in the team’s first game, so it’s reasonable to expect a little more out of Albany this week, especially quarterback Tommy Grady, who showed some signs of rust after sitting out the 2017 season. The price is a little steep in this one in a league designed to have some parity, so will go ahead and grab the points and also take the over, as Albany’s offensive woes in Game 1 can partly be attributed to the Soul’s defense.
Washington at Philadelphia: The Soul is favored by 13 in this one and the total is 103. Washington quarterback Nick Davila didn’t play badly in his AFL return in Week 1, throwing for six touchdowns and rushing for another in the losing effort. Baltimore jumped out to a 14-0 lead and the Valor were playing catch-up the entire game and never quite got there. This one could very well come down to turnovers, which was the case last year. Washington had four turnovers in one game and five in another, both of which resulted in easy wins for the Soul. In the game the Valor had one turnover, the Soul won 48-47. Davila should do a better job protecting the football and has had some decent performances against Philadelphia in the past, so will grab the underdog in this one and hope for a close game.
