Just one game in the Arena Football League tonight, as Washington moved its game with Albany to next month due to the Capitals and Wizards in their respective playoffs, So we’re left with Baltimore at Philadelphia and the Soul are favored by 10.5 and the total is 108.5.
Both teams are coming off wins to open the season, as the Brigade defeated Washington 61-56 in an exciting game that saw quarterback Randy Hippeard throw for five touchdowns and run for two more, as the Brigade jumped to an early 14-0 lead and never trailed. Baltimore spread the ball around, with four different players catching four or more passes and five different players caught touchdown passes.
The Soul had an easier time with Albany, winning by a 56-35 margin after breaking open a 21-21 game in the second quarter. The soul had two interceptions in the game and were content to work on the clock in the fourth quarter, as there was just one touchdown scored in the four quarter.
For the Soul, quarterback Dan Radabaugh was in mid-season form, throwing for six touchdowns, with Darius Prince having a huge game and snagging 12 receptions for 112 yards and three touchdowns.
It’s hard to tell if Albany’s output was due to the Empire playing its first-ever game or if the Soul defense will be better than last season. A bit of a combination is the most likely explaination, but Philadelphia is likely a head above everybody else right now, even though the league has done all it can to create a bit of parity in the league by shifting players around following the demise of the Tampa Bay Storm and Cleveland.
We split our two games last week, taking both of the unders, and both games were bet up a large amount after I made my plays, in part due to the low early betting limits.
The Soul are solid on both sides of the ball and they are especially tough at home. The line is cheap when you look at last year’s games, where the Sould were favored by 12 and 17 on the road, while being favored by 23.5 twice at home and 14 in the other game. The median score last year was 103 points and we saw 91 points twice, along with highs of 117 and 123 points.
Will have to take the Soul and the over in this one. Philadelphia could have scored another touchdown or two last week, but called off the dogs in the fourth quarter and don’t think that will happen in front of the home fans, especially with Baltimore the team who handed Philadelphia its lone loss last season.
