AFC Top Three Matchups – Week 8 Handicapping Report

In a battle of one-loss teams in the AFC, the Houston Texans established themselves as the ‘king of the hill’ in the conference with a convincing victory over Baltimore this past Sunday. After Houston, there is a log jam of teams fighting for position in their division as we approach the halfway point of the season.
The following is a handicapping report for the top three matchups in the AFC this week with lines provided by 5Dimes.
Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets (-2.5) Total Line: 40.5
Miami is coming off a bye week with a 3-3 record both straight-up and against the spread. It has won three of its last five games and the total has stayed UNDER in its last two. The Jets battled New England to the bitter end in this past Sunday’s 29-26 loss as 11.5-point underdogs on the road and are now 3-4 SU and 5-2 ATS. The total has gone OVER in their last two games.
The Dolphins are 5-12-1 ATS in their last 18 games against New York and 4-7-3 ATS in their last 14 road games against the Jets. The total has stayed UNDER in three of the last four meetings. The Jets have won nine of their last 13 home games SU while Miami is 3-9 SU in its last 12 games on the road.
Indianapolis Colts vs. Tennessee Titans (-3.5) Total Line: 46.5
The Colts have won three of their last five games to climb to 3-3 both SU and ATS on the season. They have managed to score a combined 26 points in their last two games with the total staying UNDER in both contests. Tennessee squeezed-out a 35-34 victory over Buffalo this past Sunday as a 4.5-point road underdog to improve to 3-4 SU and ATS on the year. The total has gone OVER in four of its last five games.
Indianapolis has won six of the last seven meetings SU but it is only 4-8 ATS in the last 12 games between the two. The total has stayed UNDER in six of the last seven meetings overall and in five of the last seven meetings in Tennessee.
Oakland Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs (-1) Total Line: OFF
Oakland is off to a disappointing 2-4 start both SU and ATS, but it did snap a two-game skid this past Sunday with a 26-23 victory over Jacksonville as a six-point home favorite. The total has gone OVER in three of its last five games. Kansas City dropped three-straight games before going into its bye week. It heads into this AFC West clash at just 1-5 SU and 2-4 ATS. The total has gone OVER in three of its last five games as well.
The Raiders are just 6-12 SU against the Chiefs in the last 18 meetings, but 4-2 SU in the last six games. The total has stayed UNDER in seven of the last eight games between the two overall and has stayed UNDER in six of the last seven meetings in Kansas City. Oakland is a perfect 5-0 SU in its last five trips to Kansas City including a 16-13 victory as a 2.5-point underdog in December of last year.
