Best 5 Teams On the MLB Odds On the Road (8/9/13)
- Updated: August 9, 2013
There are only right around 50 games left in the 2013 MLB betting campaign, and we are setting up for a heck of a fight to get into the playoffs all over baseball. Winning games on the road is the key sometimes, and today, we’re going to be taking a look at the teams that have done it the best this season away from their own ballparks.
(Road record and amount of profit based upon a $100 bet listed in parentheses)
Pittsburgh Pirates (29-24, +$1,178) – It’s not all that often that you see a team put together over $1,000 of profits both at home and on the road, but it’s also not all that often that you see the Pirates competing for a spot in the playoffs. There is no doubt that this season will be the first in two decades in which Pittsburgh has made it to 82 wins, and these 29 road wins are a big part of that. It’s going to be trying over the course of the next few weeks for the Bucs though, as they have to go to Colorado and St. Louis, then come home for just three games before going out to the West Coast for seven more games. There’s only a total of nine home games between now and September 12th.
Los Angeles Dodgers (33-25, +$880) – The Dodgers really started their fantastic run on the road, and they have now won 17-of-18 games away from Dodger Stadium. In fact, after going on an epic run like that, it’s amazing to think that LA doesn’t have the best money record on the road in the majors, even though this 33-25 mark is SU record in the league away from home. With 58 road games already out of the way, there are more home games left to this season, and Manager Don Mattingly and the crew are clearly ready to just put their foot on the gas pedal and race towards the best record in baseball as the season wears on. The Dodgers just took three out of four from the Cardinals, and taking three out of four in St. Louis is certainly no easy task.
Baltimore Orioles (30-26, +$684) – The Orioles are going to have to win a heck of a lot of games on the road for the rest of the season if they are ultimately going to be in the playoffs. This battle in the AL East is a horror right now, as there are 5.5 games separating the first place Red Sox and the third place Orioles, and there are four teams that have between 50 and 53 losses right now that would be fighting for just one spot in the playoffs if they were to start today. Interestingly enough, it has been going West that has played into the hands of the O’s of late, as they have a 10-2 record on the road against teams from the NL West and the AL West since the start of May. Now, they’re on a West Coast swing that will carry them through the end of this week.
New York Mets (27-28, +$607) – The Mets still have an outside shot of winning 80 games this season, and they still could very well finish second in the NL East. The team hasn’t played well on the road of late though, as this last road trip included a pair of losses to the Marlins and three to the Nationals. In fact, the last time New York had a winning series on the road was in San Francisco back on July 8-10. This next trip starting on Friday is going to be one of the longest that any team has to go on this year, as the Mets have to play three in Arizona, three in LA, four in San Diego, and then a makeup game in Minnesota before coming back home for a relatively short home stand. It’s a brutal schedule, and it might be the end of seeing the Mets on the list of the Top 5 road teams in baseball.
Boston Red Sox (31-26, +$557) – The Red Sox have been an interesting study on the road of late. They have won eight road games since July 9th, and in those eight road games, they have scored at least four runs in each of the eight. They have also averaged 8.5 runs per game in those clashes. Of course, they have also lost five road games since that stretch as well, and in those games, they have a grand total of three runs scored, including getting shut out in three of those five games. The boys from Beantown though, are still doing alright if they can win eight out of every 13 games which they play on the road.
