2019 Mid-American Conference Football Odds

Our next college football conference is the Mid-American Conference, which is pretty wide open, with four teams at +500 or lower. The Ohio Bobcats are solid favorites to capture the East and advance to the title game, which is the first step of winning the conference and something that bettors need to keep in mind, while the West looks to be a three-team battle between Toledo, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. The Rockets get the nod to come from the West and are also the conference favorites.

The Bobcats did lose a lot of players from last year’s offense, but return quarterback Nathan Rourke, who passed for more than 2,400 yards and rushed for 1,000, while Central Michigan is the latest stop for quarterback Quinten Dormady, who started at Tennessee and transferred to Houston, only to move again to CMU for new coach Jim McElain.

We’ll look at the odds from 5Dimes as of Aug. 23.

Odds to Win the 2019 Conference USA Championship

Team Odds
Toledo +275
Ohio +300
Northern Illinois +400
Western Michigan +475
Eastern Michigan +900
Miami, Ohio +1200
Buffalo +1500
Akron, Central Michigan +5000
Ball State, Kent State +6600
Bowling Green +20000

As you can see there are the proverbial “haves” and “have nots” when it comes to the MAC, with seven of the teams at 15-to-1 or less, then a pretty gap before you get to the remaining five teams. It does seem a little odd seeing Bowling Green at the very bottom of the odds chart, as the Falcons were the class of the conference for a number of years.

In this case, Ohio is probably the best bet on the board, just due to having a much easier time reaching the title game than the other teams, but they could very well be underdogs to whichever team makes it from the West.

Odds to Win Mid-American Conference East Division

Team Odds
Ohio -160
Miami, Ohio +410
Buffalo +425
Kent State +1200
Akron +1400
Bowling Green +3500

Pretty tough to play the Bobcats in this spot at -160, which is why I have them at +300 to win the conference, as the possibility of hedging your bet if they can advance to the championship game is there. Buffalo is going to be hard-pressed to match last year and return just seven starters and lost quarterback Tyree Jackson.

Odds to Win Mid-American Conference West Division

Team Odds
Toledo +175
Western Michigan +245
Northern Illinois +250
Eastern Michigan +495
Central Michigan +2000
Ball State +2500

Things are definitely tight in the West and the Western Michigan at Toledo game could very well decide which team advances to the conference title game. Eastern Michigan could be a bit of a sleeper here and their fortunes could well rest in the play of quarterback Mark Glass.
