The reigning champions USA will try to retain the title, while Holland will look for its first-ever World Cup trophy. These two teams will meet each other at Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Decines-Charpieu, France, on Sunday to decide who will win the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The bookies are pretty sure the USWNT will retain the crown, but the Orange is the reigning European champion and will try its best to make a double.
USA vs. Holland
Three-way: 1: USA -240; X: +350 Draw; 2: Holland +750
Spread -1: USA -145; Holland +115
Total 2.5 Goals: Over -125; Under +100
Both Teams to Score: Yes +100; No -139
The USWNT had a lot of problems during the knockout stage but still managed to reach the final once again. Jill Ellis’ girls won their previous three games with an identical 2-1 result, eliminating Spain in the round of 16, the host nation France in the quarterfinal, and England in the semifinal. They were pretty lucky against the Lionesses who missed the penalty kick to force extra time in their semifinal clash.
Still, the reigning champs proved they have the best front line in the World, bagging 24 goals at this tournament. Striker Alex Morgan (168 caps, 107 goals) is leading the way with six goals, and she also made three assists. Forward Megan Rapinoe (157 caps, 49 goals) scored five goals along with a couple of dishes and was a key player in the knockout stage with four goals. Midfielder Sam Mewis (55 caps, 14 goals) bagged two goals and made three assists.
- USA won 12 straight games
- Ten of the USA’s last 11 games saw three or more goals in the total
- Both teams scored in the USA’s last three outings
The Orange won five straight contests in 90 minutes at this tournament prior to its semifinal duel with Sweden. Holland had to play extra time against the Blue and Yellow after a goalless draw in the regulation, and the Orange earned its place in the final thanks to Jackie Groenen’s goal in the 99th minute of the game. So far, Holland has bagged 11 goals at the 2019 Women’s World Cup, allowing three in a return.
Forward duo Vivianne Miedema (81 caps, 61 goals) and Lieke Martens (109 caps, 44 goals) are leading the way for the Orange. Miedema scored three goals, while Martens netted twice. Sherida Spitse (168 caps, 30 goals) is a key player in the middle of the park, and she made four dishes at this tournament, while forward Lineth Beerensteyn (46 caps, 10 goals) added one goal and an assist.
- Holland lost two of its last 12 games along with eight wins and a couple of ties
- Five of Holland’s last eight games saw three or more goals in the total
- Both teams scored in three of Holland’s last five outings
The USWNT overcame all the obstacles on its way to the final, and I think Jill Ellis’ girls will win the World Cup for the second time in a row. They are a better team in general, but Holland possesses a very dangerous front line that could easily find the net in the final.
However, I think Holland’s defense cannot cope with Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe, so I expect to see at least a couple of goals in the Orange’s net. The USWNT scored two or more goals in each of its six outings at this tournament. Also, the USWNT met the Orange twice in this decade, winning 3-1 on both occasions.
I would stick with the side bet, but if you want greater wages, take both teams to score along with three or more goals in the total.
The Pick: USA AH -1 (-145)
Additional Pick: Both Teams to Score YES & Over 2.5 Goals (+150)
