It’s not often that a favorite in motorsports offers decent value, but that will be the case on July 14 when the Formula One British Grand Prix takes place at Silverstone in the United Kingdom.

Current F1 points leader Lewis Hamilton is sitting at -120 to win the race and after last year’s debacle, you can be sure that Hamilton will be looking to make amends. After dominating the field in 2017, Hamilton was the clear favorite last year and took the pole.
A slow start saw Hamilton drop back to third and then he was taken out by Kimi Räikkönen, falling to the back of the field. Hamilton charged back to second place, but finished 2.264 seconds behind at the checkered flag.
Hamilton and Mercedes are the class of Formula One this season and he’s won six of the nine races, while teammate Valterri Bottas has won twice. Red Bull Racing Honda was able to put an end to the Mercedes stranglehold in Victory Lane last time out in Austria, where Hamilton finished a disappointing fifth, the only time he’s not been in the top two all season.
But if there’s one race Hamilton would like to win each year, it’s likely the one race held in the United Kingdom, where he was born, although he currently lives in Monaco and owns several homes in the United States.
Hamilton has won the British Grand Prix five times, winning in 2008 and then seeing a lapse of several years before returning to the top step of the podium, but had wins in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 before last year’s disappointment.
Not surprisingly, Bottas is No. 2 in the odds and he’s in second place in the season standings, while Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel are the only other two drivers at less than 10-to-1 odds. Max Verstappen, who won is Austria, is 10-to-1, followed by Pierre Gasley at 30-to-1 and each of the other drivers are 100-to-1 or greater.
By no means is Hamilton guaranteed to win the race, but at -120 offers a bit of value and should probably be closer to -200 based on winning four of the last five British Grand Prix races and six of the nine Formula One races. Add in a bit of incentive to do well in the UK, and it’s probably a decent wager.
